Marilyn W. Pedersen, 81 of Devils Lake formerly of Brocket, ND passed away on Monday, June 29, 2009 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake with her loving family at her side. Funeral Services for Marilyn will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 3:30 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Rafe Allison will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 p.m.7:00 p.m. and on Thursday at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Serving as Casket Bearers for Marilyn will be her grandchildren, Jamie Beck, David Beck, Darren Lippert, Andrea Angell, Christopher Strum, Ben Hannesson, Logan Hannesson, Jarrod Kuntz and Joshua Kuntz. Music will be provided by Donovan Foughty, soloist and Brenda Swenseth, pianist. Marilyn was born March 19, 1928 on the family farm in Newbre Township, Ramsey County, North Dakota, the daughter of Willis J. and Lydia (Clausen) Hursman. Marilyn was reared and educated in the Brocket area, attending the Newbre Country School and graduating from Brocket High School. She attended Mayville State College where she received her teaching certificate. She then taught at Hampden Public School where she met and fell in love with her future husband. Marilyn was united in marriage to Allen Pedersen on September 19, 1948 in Brocket. They lived for a short time in Minneapolis, Minnesota then in 1950 moved to Devils Lake where they lived, worked and raised their family. Allen died on November 12, 1998. Marilyn was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed sewing for her family and friends. She sewed many costumes for ice skaters, prom dresses and several family wedding dresses. She served as a Girl Scout Leader for many years and was very involved in the activities of her children and grandchildren. Marilyn volunteered as a hairdresser and helper at the Lutheran Home for many years and also worked with the RSVP program. Marilyn was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church and she and Allen were instrumental in the construction of the church. Marilyn was involved in the ladies aid and many of the church activities and spent many years teaching Sunday School. But most of all, Marilyn was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Marilyn is survived by her loving family. Her daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Casper Beck of Cando, ND; Diane and Peter Lippert of Devils Lake; Arlene and Daniel Strum of Brooklyn Park, MN; Janet and Bryan Hannesson of Devils Lake and Wanda and Richard Kuntz also of Devils Lake. Grandchildren: Jamie (Kay) Beck, David (fiance, Alison Zucco) Beck; Darren (Lori) Lippert; Andrea (Jon) Angell, Christopher Strum; Ben Hannesson, Logan Hannesson; Jarrod (Kristin) Kuntz, Joshua Kuntz; Great Grandchildren: Christian, Matthew, Madison and Cameron Beck; Kaylee and Blake Lippert; Brothers: Fred Hursman and his wife, Orel of Vergas, MN Bud Hursman and his wife, Larol of Grand Forks, ND Roy Hursman and his wife, Bev of Anaheim, California Sister-In-Law: Cecelia Hursman of Fargo, ND Many nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Allen and brother, Howard Hursman.
