Michael Allen Smith, 64 of Tokio, ND died on Sunday, July 8, 2007 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake Mass of Christian Burial for Michael will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, St. Michael, ND. Fr. Paul Ruge will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery. A Wake will be held at St. Michael’s Recreation Center on Friday, July 13, 2007 beginning at 5:00 p.m. The Rosary and Prayer Service will be held at 8:00 p.m. and led by Fr. Charles Leute, O.P. The Procession to St. Michael’s Recreation Center will leave at 4:00 p.m. on Friday from the Wal-Mart Parking Lot. Serving as Casket Bearers for Michael will be Pat Hook Sr. “Baby Pat” Hook Jr., Justin Hook, Wesley Young, Leonard “Moose” Smith and Lonnie Smith. Honorary Bearers will be Archie RedFox Sr. Si IronHeart Jr., Roger Brown, Ivan BlackCloud, Verle Greywater, Marty Blueshield, Jean Paul, Dennis Jetty and Eugene Hale. Michael Allen was born in Devils Lake on December 18, 1942, the son of Simon and Sara (Young) Smith. He grew up in the Tokio area and attended school at St. Michael’s Mission School, Flandreau, South Dakota and Maddock. He later received certification as a carpenter at United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck. Michael spent most of his early years traveling and working as a welder and carpenter in many states across the country, including Oregon, California, South Dakota, Illinois, working in engineering and iron and steel and in Washington where he went to welding school and worked in a hammer factory. He moved back to North Dakota and for the past 20 years has made his home closer to family. Michael was a “people person” and loved spending time with his friends and family. He also enjoyed putting his carpentry and mechanical skills to use in many of his building projects and just “tinkering” around the house and working on vehicles for his friends and family. His fun loving spirit and laughter will be dearly missed by his loving family and many friends. Michael is survived by his daughters, Melissa Smith of Sisseton, South Dakota; Carrie Smith of Tokio Step Son: Patrick Hook Sr., Fort Totten; Grandsons: Justin Hook, Patrick Hook Jr., and Dylen Smith; Granddaughters: Kayla Hook, Paige Hook, Amber Hook, Elyisea Brown, Rosella Brown, Kierra Smith, Chelsea Young and Sarah Young, Jocelynn Smith and Savannah ‘From Havannah’ Smith Adopted daughter: Amber Gourd Brothers and Sisters: Calvin (Violet) Smith of Tokio; David Smith of Crow Hill; Josephine Smith, Cynthia Hunt and Rita Volk all of Fargo. Adopted sister: Flo Peltier Aunts: Sharon (Albin) Georgenson, Sr.; Hilda (Louie) Garcia; Alberta RedFox and Kay RedFox Special Aunt: Elizabeth Lawrence Uncle: Archie RedFox Sr. Special Nieces: Candice Smith and Amy Brown Many Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and their families and cousins also survive. Michael was preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Michael and Michael in infancy and Michael Paul Smith; grandson, James Hook; brothers, Leonard DeMarce, Gabriel Smith and Joseph Smith; sister, Florence Blackbird and adopted brother, Richie Ross.
