O. Duane Sturlaugson, 68, Bottineau formerly of Devils Lake, ND died on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at Trinity Hospital in Minot, ND.
Funeral Services for Duane will be held on Monday, July 28, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake with Pastor Daryl Jelsing officiating. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be at Gilbertson Funeral Home on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
Casket Bearers are Dennis Strong, Leo Boyle, Nathan Fritz, Danny Odden, Eddy Gilderhus and Leroy Krueger.
Music will be Congregational Hymns with Lynda Pearson as pianist.
Duane, son of Oscar and Margaret (Syndal) Sturlaugson, was born on March 5, 1940 in Grafton, ND. He was reared near Backoo, ND and attended the Svold School until the 8th grade then attended school in Park River where he graduated in 1958. Duane attended college in Fargo attaining the prerequisites prior to attending Palmer School of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. He graduated with a Doctorate Degree, June 12, 1964. He returned to North Dakota and began working in Bismarck at the Oldenburg Chiropractic Clinic. On December 11, 1965 he married Janice Netzer in Bismarck. After their marriage they moved to New Rockford where he started his own Chiropractic practice. In 1972 they moved to Devils Lake where he continued to practice for another 25 years before he retired. Janice passed away on February 19, 2003. In the fall of 2007 he moved to Bottineau where he has since resided.
He enjoyed deer hunting, Steam Threshers, old locomotive displays, War Museums, black powder and antique firearms, and traveling. Duane was a member of the North Dakota Chiropractic Association.
Duane is survived by his son, Brad Sturlaugson and his wife, Sheila of Bottineau; a daughter, Elizabeth “Betty” and her husband, Joe Hansen of Limerick, Pennsylvania
Grandchildren: Mercedes Sturlaugson, Hunter Sturlaugson, Cheyenne Sturlaugson, Alecia Odden and Miranda Hansen; sisters-in-law, Suzanne Kargas of Hazen, ND and Arlene Fritz of Morris, Illinois and brother-in-law, Myron Netzer of Bismarck.
Numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Margaret and his wife, Janice.
