Anton Julius Mitzel was born on November 11, 1946 at the Air Base in San Diego, California, the son of Anton and Faith (Jabs) Mitzel Sr. At a young age, he and his parents moved to the Oberon, North Dakota area and Anton attended school in Sheyenne and Oberon. He spent several years living and working on the farm with his parents. He entered the United States Army on March 6, 1968 and served his country during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on August 7, 1970 at Fort Dix with the rank of PFC. After his discharge, he returned to North Dakota where he would live and work the rest of his life. He worked for a time at Brunswick in Fort Totten and was a bartender at the Stables and Colonial Hotel in Devils Lake. He then moved to Bismarck to work and to raise his two sons. In 1995 he moved to New Rockford and continued to be instrumental in raising his boys with the help of his special friend, Linda. In 1996, they moved to Fort Totten and then to Warwick in 1998. In 1999 they moved back to Fort Totten where they have since made their home.
Tony was a jack-of-all trades and was always very generous in sharing those talents with all of his friends, neighbors and family. Always willing to give a helping hand where ever and when ever it was needed.
