Kenneth Merle Schneider, 66 of Devils Lake, ND passed away peacefully on Monday, October 25, 2010 at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, Minneapolis, Minnesota with his loving family at his bedside.
A Memorial Service for Ken will be held on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake with burial in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team.
Ken was born on August 13, 1944 to Frank and Rosa (Olsen) Schneider in Devils Lake, ND. He grew up in Devils Lake area until 1960 when the family moved to Renton, Washington where he graduated from Renton High School in 1962.
Ken joined the Navy and spent 4 years at Point Magoo Naval Base in California. President JFK came to the base and Ken got to shake hands with him. He talked about this as being one of his proudest moments. He loved motorcycles and spent countless hours riding and working on his Harleys. Ken returned to North Dakota in 1970, lived in Bismarck and Stanton before returning to Devils Lake in 1990. Ken worked at the Spirit Lake Casino until he retired.
Ken and his life stories will be missed by all including his surviving children, Monica Slater of Mandan, ND and Eric Schneider of Virginia, Minnesota; five grandchildren; brothers, Joel Schneider and his wife Kyann and Larry Schneider all of Devils Lake, Steve Schneider and his wife Sue of Scottsdale, Arizona and Andrew Schneider of Pahrump, Nevada; sisters, Roselen Lien of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jane and her husband Pete Stenhjem of Mesa, Arizona and Barbara McCall of Ravensdale, Washington; uncle, Ned Schneider of Northwood, ND;
Kenneth was preceded in death by his mother, Rosa (Schneider) Roberts; father, Frank Schneider; grandparents, Knute and Margaret Olsen and Egnatz and Ursula Schneider and several uncles and cousins.
