Daniel A. Greene, Jr., 72 of St. Michael, ND died on Friday, October 5, 2007 at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Michael Parish in St. Michael on Thursday, October 11 at 10 a.m. Celebrant of all services will be Fr. Paul Ruge. Rosary and vigil service to be held on Wednesday, October 10 at the St. Michael Parish Church, beginning at 5 p.m. with Rosary at 8 p.m. Active pallbearers will be Joe Engels, Rod Cavanaugh, Aloysius Cloud, Darrel Smith, Robert Greene, Sr. and William Cavanaugh. Honorary pallbearers will be US Army: Frank Greene; US Marines: Jason Greene, Merlin Greene; US Navy: Robert Greene Jr., Shawn Greene, Brian Greene; US Army: Aaron Greene, Fabian Greene, James Greene, Frank Greene; US Air Force: Rebecca Gutierrez; US Army National Guard: Krystal Caldwell, Robert Lee Greene; Spirit Lake Akicita and VFW Post 6547. Dan Green, Jr. was born August, 23, 1935 in Ft. Totten, ND. The son of Lillian Lajimodiere-Greene and Daniel Greene, Sr., Daniel attended St. Michael’s grade school and Ft. Totten high school and at age 18 years old he joined the U.S. Air Force and served in the Far East and U.S. bases for 12 years. He lived in New York, was married in 1960 to Carol Ann Sanicola, together they had five (5) children. He moved back to Ft. Totten, where he held various jobs and made his home through the years. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #6547 of Ft. Totten and proudly served as a military honor guard for many of his fellow Veterans who preceded him in death. Dan enjoyed hunting and was an expert marksman with a variety of weapons. Family gatherings and visits from nieces and nephews was important. Spending time with family and watching history channel on T.V. was his quiet time. He was a gifted plumber and repair man. He was willing to assist in family projects such as the lake side camp site for everyone’s enjoyment. He had a deep voice which got your attention when he spoke. A heart of gold lay under the rough exterior and you knew it. We will miss his place in our family events and daily activity and the grandchildren will miss their “Grandpa Candy.” Dan is survived by his children, Lillian Flannigan, Kathleen Hoke, Susan Cserenyi, Darrel Greene, and Daniel Greene; sister, Mary Ann Cavanaugh; half sisters, Danita, Lori, Shannon; step-sisters, Loretta Fredrickson, Vicki Hoggarth; brothers, Edward Greene, Roger Greene, Clarence Greene, Bobby Greene; half-brothers, Daniel Greene III, Patrick Greene, Mark Greene, Sheldon Greene, Shawn Greene; step-brother, Bruce Johnson; special friend, Deloris Lohnes and sons; and many nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by father, Daniel Greene; mother, Lillian (Lajimodiere) Greene; brother Elwed Greene, half brother, David Greene, and half sisters, Judy Comer and Leanna Wolf.
