Margaret Brinster, 87 of Devils Lake formerly of Bismarck, ND died on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret will be on Saturday, December 16, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. C.F. Wilhelm will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake on Friday, December 15, 2006 from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Saturday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Casket Bearers will Margaret’s Grandchildren: Jericia French, Joscelyne Thompson, Jason Stansbury, Justin Stansbury, Corey Hoff and Brandon Hoff. Honorary Pallbearers will be Margaret’s Grandchildren: Stephanie Zabinski, Shawna Senger, John Stansbury, Sharlene Cusey, Rachel Conrad, Dean Hoff, Angel Kametz, Austin Brinster, Janelle Cunningham, Aaron Brinster. Reading the Scriptures will be Dean Hoff and Brian Senger Gift Bearers will be Stephanie Zabinski, Shawna Senger, Sharlene Cusey, Angel Kametz and Janelle Cunningham. Music will be provided by Patty Cote. Margaret (Schwan) Brinster was born February 17, 1919, on a farm 9 miles south of Berwick, ND, in Pierce County. She was the daughter of Denis and Barbara (Volk) Schwan. Margaret was raised on a farm and attended a country grade school south of Berwick. During her younger years, Margaret worked for John Jaeger as a cook for the thrashing crew; she worked for Dr. and Mrs. O.W. Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. John Nelson in Rugby, North Dakota, as a housekeeper. On October 20, 1941, she married John Brinster at the Fulda Catholic Church in Fulda, North Dakota. They enjoyed 65 years of married life together. Margaret and John owned and operated a grocery store in Balta, North Dakota, and in 1945 they sold the grocery store and moved to Devils Lake. In Devils Lake they owned rooming houses and small apartments which Margaret managed. In 1971 they moved to Bismarck, North Dakota. Margaret worked for the Double Wood Inn in Bismarck for 16 years in the housekeeping department. Margaret retired in 1990. In 2005, Margaret and John moved back to Devils Lake. Margaret is survived by her husband, John; two daughters, Mary Lou (Cleatus) Tandeksi of Devils Lake and Marjorie (Walt) Hoff of Palmdale, California; two sons, Joe (Sherry) Brinster of Linville, North Carolina, and Jerome (Betty) Brinster of Omaha, Nebraska; sixteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren; four sisters, Sr. Barbara Marie of Hankinson, ND, Monica Nelson of Devils Lake, Berta Schell of Bismarck, ND, and Fran Schwan of Devils Lake; two brothers, Simon Schwan of Michigan, ND and Maurice Schwan of Devils Lake, ND. Margaret is preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Mathilda Schwan, Margaret Schwan, Tilly Schwan, Mathilda Burkholder and Mary Lauinger; three brothers, Vincent Schwan, David Schwan and Al Schwan; one granddaughter, Joy Allison Brinster and daughter-in-law, Patricia Brinster.
