Darlys Smith

Darlys Smith, 69 of Sheyenne, ND died on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at the Heartland Care Center with her loving family at her side. The Rosary and Prayer Service for Darlys will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church, rural Crow Hill, ND. Fr. Charles Leute O.P. will officiate and burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Sheyenne, ND. Darlys was born on December 24, 1937 in Charles City, Iowa the daughter of Evelyn (O’Dowd) and Dale Holland. She was educated in Tacoma, Washington. She attended Aquinas High School in Tacoma. On November 24, 1956 she married Edward “Eddy” Smith in Tacoma. They established their home there where they lived, worked, and raised their family. In 1969, Eddy, Darlys, and their five children moved to North Dakota. Darlys worked along side her husband in the grocery business. They had stores in Tokio, Fort Totten, and St. Michael. She later worked at WalMart, until retiring in 1998. She then worked part time at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, ND. Eddy died on March 29, 2005. Darlys is survived by her Children: Douglas E. Smith and his wife, Marcy, Minot, ND Sandra L. Malzahn and her husband, Dean, Sheyenne, ND Gary R. Smith and his wife, Roberta, Devils Lake Alexander D. Smith, Sheyenne Teresa K. Senger, New Rockford Sixteen Grandchildren Seven Great Grandchildren Brother: William Holland She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Evelyn and Dale; step father, Walter Bender; husband, Eddy; and granddaughter, Monica Grace.
