Philip Frelich, 89 a life long resident of Devils Lake, ND died on Saturday, December 2, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake.
Funeral Services for Philip will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 7, 2006 in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Roger Leonhardt will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Wednesday, December 6, 2006.
Philip Frelich was born April 4, 1917 in Devils Lake, ND the son of Andrew and Margaret (Schiele) Frelich. He attended school in Devils Lake graduating from the North Dakota School for the Deaf where he met his wife Esther Dockter. After their marriage, they farmed rural Devils Lake and later the family moved into town where he worked for the Devils Lake Journal until he retired. He then worked for Hoibergs for several years before re-retiring in 1990.
Photography was initially his hobby and later became a home business. He photographed weddings, took portraits and could often be found in his darkroom processing photos for himself and others.
Philip was active in the deaf community and served as president of the North Dakota Association of the Deaf for two terms.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Esther and their nine children, Phyllis Frelich-Steinberg and her husband, Bob of Los Angeles, CA; Dennis Frelich of San Diego, CA; Merrill Frelich and his wife, Peg of Swartz Creek, MI; Shirley Egbert and her husband, John of Ham Lake, MN; Peggy Camp Brandt and her husband, Dave, of Minnetonka, MI; Timothy Frelich of Jessup, MD; Priscilla O’Donnell and her husband, Mike of Olney, MD; Pamela Campbell and her husband, Paul, of Odenton, MD; Daryl Frelich and his wife, Naja of Adamstown, MD as well as eighteen Grandchildren; three Great Grandchildren and his older sister, Christine Wisler of Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joe Frelich; and sister, Rose Leiphon.
