David E. “Scooby” Peterson, 45 of Devils Lake, ND went home with the Lord on Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. David battled melanoma cancer for 2 years.
Memorial Services for David will be held on Monday, February 5, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake. Pastor Eric Stewart, Pastor of Lighthouse Baptist Church, will officiate and burial will be in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in the spring. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers for David will be his nephews, Joseph Thumb, Elvis Thumb Jr., Jeremy Longie, Thomas Longie, Mitchell LaRocque and Delorean Comer and friend, Lewis Dunn.
David Eugene Peterson was born on October 4, 1961 to John and Dorothy (Kraft) Peterson in Seattle, Washington. They moved to Devils Lake in 1962 and David attended St. Michael’s Mission School and Warwick Public School. He joined the United States Army National Guard on September 21, 1979 at Devils Lake and received his training in Maryland. He was stationed with the 3662nd MCHE at Camp Grafton as a Fuel and Electric Systems Specialist. He was honorably discharged on March 14, 1985 and had received commendation as an M16 Rifle Expert. After his discharge, David worked for a time at Integra Castings, Cando, ND, Sioux Manufacturing, Fort Totten Public School System as a Bus Driver and Bus Repairmen all of Fort Totten, Young’s Auto Salvage, Target Roofing and Good Year all of Devils Lake. He also did farm work for his older sister, Cheryl Logan. He was truly a jack-of-all-trades. David was once married to Idell Thmb and to this union was born a wonderful daughter, Amanda Jean. David also helped raise, Michael Good, Danny Butts and Garrett Loftis.
David was a loving, caring, gentle man with the greatest sense of humor. He loved to go fishing, camping, grilling and working on vehicles with his brothers and close friends. He will be greatly missed and remembered always.
David is survived by his only child, Amanda Peterson of Devils Lake
