Hester E. Deplazes, 91 of Devils Lake, ND formerly of the York area died on Thursday, June 28, 2007 at her daughter’s home in Horace, ND. Mass of Christian Burial for Hester will be on Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake with Fr. Robert Pecotte celebrating the Mass. Graveside Services will be on Tuesday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Cando, ND at 1:15 p.m. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Tuesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Serving as Casket Bearers for Hester will be her grandsons, Keith Eisenzimmer, Kelly Berndt, Matthew Green, Charles Green, Eric Giese, Brad Herman, Wade Everson, Tommy Headrick, Brendan Headrick, Donald Brown, Lucas Brown, Stephen Deplazes, Nathan Deplazes, Aaron Deplazes and Ronald J. Deplazes, Jr. Honorary Bearers will be all of Hester Granddaughters. Reading the Scriptures will be: Briget Sprenger and Lynn Giese-Davenport; Music will be provided by Elise Tuntland, prelude music and Angie Deplazes; Music at the graveside will be provided by Andrew Sprenger and Pat Headrick; Gift Bearers will be: Samantha Myhre, Savanna Geske, Andrew Davenport, Sara Houselog and Erin Houselog. Hester Evelyn Brown was born on February 1, 1916 in Union Township, Pierce County, rural York, ND, the daughter of Clyde Serenus and Iva Christine (Dormire) Brown. She attended elementary school in the Hurricane Lake Country School, rural York. She began high school in Wolford, ND, going to Grand Forks her sophomore year and living with Mrs. Overholt, then returned to Wolford High School and graduated in the class of 1935. Hester was united in marriage to Francis L. Deplazes on June 7, 1935 at Cando, ND. They established their home on the farm in Hurricane Lake area where they farmed for several years. They later moved to rural York and in 1961 moved to Towner, ND where they made their home for 25 years. Francis died on August 23, 1984. In 1986, Hester moved to Devils Lake and would make this her home for 17 years. She lived for a time in Mandan with her daughter, Michel and for the past month while on Hospice Care, Hester lived with her daughter, Cecelia in Horace. Hester devoted her life to caring for her husband and her children. She was a 4-H leader for many years and was also very active in the Devils Lake Homemaker’s Club and Quilting Guild, a hobby she truly enjoyed and lovingly shared her creations with her family and friends. Hester also enjoyed caring for her flower garden and was an excellent cook. She patiently taught her cooking and baking skills to her grandchildren. In these later years, Hester traveled extensively visiting with family and friends across the country. She never hestitated to try a new adventure and even went salmon and halibut fishing in Alaska Hester was a woman of great faith and love and she will be forever missed, forever loved and forever in our hearts. May she rest in God’s peace. Hester is survived by her children: Harriet Bracken and her husband, Lyle, Leeds, ND; Virginia Eisenzimmer, Devils Lake; Margaret Giese and her husband, Ervin, Devils Lake; Angela Herman and her husband, Robert, Rugby, ND; Mary Everson and her husband, Robert, Fargo; Barbara Headrick and her husband, Pat, Bismarck; Michel Deplazes and her husband, Tom Tuntland, Mandan, ND; Cecelia Brown and her husband, Don, Horace; Bernadette Deplazes and her husband, Andy Finke, Kodiak, Alaska; Patty Reeves and her husband, Greg of Anamoose, ND; Ron Deplazes and his wife, Pat, Phoenix, Arizona; Nick Deplazes and his wife, Donna, Granville, ND; Jerry Deplazes and his wife, Jerolyn, Newport, Virginia; Doug Deplazes and Tim Deplazes both of Kodiak; Thirty-Six Grandchildren; Forty-Seven Great Grandchildren; Eight Great Great Grandchildren; Sisters: Edith Slaubaugh, Wolford Eleanor Moore, Ellensburg, Washington Lois Greig, Cornvallis, Oregon; Brother-In-Law; Dick Teneyck, Canada; Sisters-In-Law: Dorothy Deplazes, Cando; Violet Deplazes and Cleo Deplazes both of Devils Lake; Margaret Deplazes, Greybull, Wyoming; Many Nieces, Nephews and their families also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Francis; son, Francis Clyde Deplazes; daughter, Hester Evelyn Marie Deplazes; grandson, Ken Green and four infant grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Teneyck and an infant sister; an infant brother; sons-in-law, Tom Green, Alfred Berndt and Bill Eisenzimmer. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Red River Valley, 702 28th Ave North, Fargo, ND; Boys Town or St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Wild Rice, North Dakota.
