Theodore Frank “Ted” Zimmer, 91 of Devils Lake formerly of Munich, ND died on Friday evening, September 28, 2007 at the Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Mass of Christian Burial for Ted will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. Dale Kinzler will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Lake Region Honor Guard. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. The Rosary will be led by the Knights of Columbus. Visitation on Thursday will be one hour prior to the funeral Mass in the Mother Theresa Hall of the church. Casket Bearers will be Ted’s Grandchildren, Justin Zimmer, Jodi Renschler, Jeff Dosch, Steve Dosch, Mitchell Dosch and Toby Hoffner. Music will be provided by Wayne Artz, soloist and Audrey Myklebust, organist Ted was born February 23, 1916 in Munich, ND, the son of Peter and Mary (Helten) Zimmer. Ted’s mother died when he was not quite 3 years old. He was raised by his father and stepmother, Hilda, on a farm near Munich and was also educated in Munich. He enlisted in the United States Army in April of 1942 and served his country during World War II. He was honorably discharged in July of 1943 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Ted was united in marriage to LaVerne Schmaus on November 8, 1943 in Munich. He and LaVerne farmed in Munich until 1958 when they bought a sanitation business in Devils Lake. After retiring in 1976, he enjoyed spending time with his family, their lake home, traveling, playing cards, spending time with his grandchildren and working on his farm land. Ted was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a life time member of the Elks, Knights of Columbus and American Legion all of Devils Lake. He is survived by his children: Tim (Judy) Zimmer, Bismarck, ND Sat Sangeet Khalsan “Martha” of Santa Cruz, New Mexico Mary (Rod) Sattler, Grand Forks, ND Kathy Riser (special friend, Mark Olson), Devils Lake Grandchildren: Justin (Jodi) Zimmer, Mannheim, Germany; Jodi (Rob) Renschler, Des Moines, Iowa; Jeff (Lisa) Dosch, Devils Lake; Steve (Lola) Dosch, Fargo; Mitchell Dosch, Eden, North Carolina; Toby (Deb) Hoffner, Devils Lake; Great Grandchildren: Jack and Jewel Zimmer of Mannheim, Germany; Hunter Dosch, Steve and Ryan Hoffner, Devils Lake; Paige Renschler, Des Moines; Braden, Ashton and Parker Dosch, Fargo; Sisters: Clara Michels and Pauline Argenizano both of Fargo; Marcella “Sally” Artz, Minot; Rosemary Steffan, Michigan, ND; Margaret Haugen, Harwood, ND; Mary Francis Becker, Devils Lake; Sr. Philip Zimmer, St. Joseph, Minnesota; Agnes (Joe) Hanigan, Lincoln, Nebraska Brother: Eugene (Sharon) Zimmer, Colorado Springs, Colorado Sisters-In-Law: Regina Hoffman, Munich and Madelyn Hoffman, Grand Forks, ND; Many nieces and nephews and their families also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother; wife, LaVerne Zimmer on January 30, 1996; grandson, Monte Hoffner; son-in-law, Keary Riser; brothers, Aloys “A.C.” Hoffman, Fr. Joseph Zimmer, Roman Zimmer and Michael Hoffman; brothers-in-law, Norbert Michels, Al Artz, Milo Haugen, Gerald Becker and Pete Steffan; sister-in-law, Pauline Zimmer. Memorials may be made in Ted’s memory to the charity of your choice.
