Catherine Kraft Engelhart

Catherine Kraft Engelhart, 95 a life long resident of the Devils Lake area, died on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at her home. Mass of Christian Burial for Catherine will be held on Monday, July 2, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. Dale Kinzler will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Monday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Serving as Casket Bearers for Catherine will be Tim Kraft, Dan Kraft, Scott Kraft, Allan Kraft, Jim Alvestad and Wayne Engelhart. Honorary Bearers will be Catherine’s thirteen great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. Music will be provided by John Frelich and Patty Cote. Reading the Scriptures will be Linda Frelich Gift Bearers will be Sue Alvestad and Jennifer Swanson Catherine was born on October 7, 1911 in Towner, ND the daughter of Jacob and Mary (Schafer) Ziegler. As a young child, she moved with her family to the Devils Lake area. Over the years her family farmed north and east of Devils Lake. She was educated at the Noonan School. Catherine worked at the Fairmont Creamery in Devils Lake during her teen years . Catherine was united in marriage to Michael Kraft in 1933. They had one son, Alfred. She and Mike farmed north of Southam. They later moved into Devils Lake where Catherine worked as a waitress at several restaurants. Mike died in August of 1968. In 1970 Catherine married Peter Engelhart. Together they enjoyed traveling, fishing, and dancing at the Eagles Club. Peter died in July of 1986. Catherine moved to the Park Village Apartments and later to the Skyview Apartments. She was a strong, humorous lady, and loved to play cards whenever she could. Catherine was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church, the Eagles, and the VFW Auxiliary. Catherine is survived by her Daughter-In-Law, Rita Kraft of Devils Lake Grandchildren: Tim (Kathy) Kraft Dan (Pam) Kraft Sue (Jim) Alvestad, all of Devils Lake Scott (Missy) Kraft of Rugby, ND Allan (Ann) Kraft of Cavalier, ND Thirteen Great Grandchildren Seven Great Great Grandchildren Step Daughters: Rose (Joe) Jager of Mojave, California Josephine Neil of Puyallup, Washington Step Sons: Eddie (Marie) Engelhart of Arizona Ken (Ginger) Engelhart of Minot, ND Many Step Grandchildren Sisters: Marie (Mel) Gette Lena Frith both of Devils Lake Helen (Bob) Hanson of Grand Forks, ND She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Michael Kraft and Peter Engelhart; son, Alfred Kraft; great great grandson, Colton Swanson; sisters, Eugenia Busby, Delores Ziegler, and Eva Senger; brothers, Joe, Jake, George, John, and Edward Ziegler; and stepchildren, George and Audrey Engelhart.
