Luella Adeline Spidahl was born on February 2, 1925 at Minnewaukan, ND the daughter of Ben and Thelma (Strauss) Spidahl. She graduated from Minnewauken High School in 1943. Luella was united in marriage to Robert Johnston on October 13, 1946. They established their home on the farm in Grand Harbor township until retiring in 1986 and moving to Devils Lake. Luella worked at the Elks Lodge for many years and was known as “Grandma” to many of the patrons. Robert died on March 17, 1995. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Mariam Circle, Sons of Norway, Rebekah Lodge, VFW Auxiliary and was a very active volunteer in the community.
Luella was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and as a mother and in her other careers, she cooked, baked and washed many dishes in her life. Therefore, in the past few years, Luella has thoroughly enjoyed “eating out” with her friends and family any chance she could.
