Darryl E. Janzen was born on April 30, 1941 at Langdon, ND the son of Peter L. and Gertrude (Cornelison) Janzen. He attended Huron School, rural Munich and after the family moved to Hampden in 1951 he attended Hampden Public School. Darryl made his home with his parents and helped on the family farm at rural Hampden and then helped at Janzen’s Jack and Jill which his parents owned and operated in Munich. He also worked for a time at Schuler Hardware in Munich. Darryl was a member of Salem Mennonite Church.
In 1983, Darryl started just a little hobby of collecting toy John Deere tractors. He never thought the collection would grow to such an enormous size, have such a variety of John Deere equipment, and also other machines including International, Versatile, Massey-Ferguson, New Holland and Gleaner combines, Co-op tractors, plus others. Darryl also had a number of belt buckles and a collection of the many different styles of the barns of the Midwest. Darryl was always very willing to share his collections with the community and they were the center of attention at many of the Munich Community events.
Darryl was also very active in all the activities of the community. He especially enjoyed attending basketball games and other sporting events.
Darryl loved being a part of the Munich community and will be greatly missed.
