Mabel C. Alm, 94 of Edina, Minnesota formerly of Devils Lake, ND died early Saturday morning, February 17, 2007 at the Edina Care Center surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral Services for Mabel will be held at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake on Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Harold Ovre will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation on Wednesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Mabel will be her grandsons, Kent Alm, Rheld Tate, Jeff Becker, Terry Johnson, Tim Johnson and Luke Alm.
Mabel Christina Nilep was born on April 17, 1912 at Tolna, ND the daughter of Gustav and Christina (Frank) Nilep. She was reared and educated in Leval Township, Nelson County, rural Tolna, ND.
Mabel was united in marriage to Glenn Richard Alm on November 9, 1935 at Devils Lake. Glenn managed grain elevators in North Dakota and Montana for over 30 years so lived in many places. In January of 1976, Glenn retired and they made their home in Poplar, Montana for two years, then moved to Terry, Montana. Glenn died on November 5, 1978. Mabel then moved to Devils Lake where she made her home through the years. For the past 2 years, she was living in Edina to be closer to family.
Mabel was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, VFW Auxiliary and the Rebekah Lodge. Mabel enjoyed all the activities of the nursing home, but especially enjoyed “Bingo”. She had a “witty” personality, was an avid Democrat and always interested in politics, but especially treasured each day she had to spend with her loving family and dear friends.
Mabel is survived by her children: Donna Tate and her husband, Roger of Texico, Illinois
Darlene Carlson and her husband, John of Scottsdale, Arizona
Duane Alm and his wife, Sunnie of Aberdeen, South Dakota
Dennis Alm and his wife, Sharon of Carson City, Nevada
Sixteen Grandchildren: Twila, Jeff, Rheld, Rhonda, Rhenda, Rhenetta, Terry, Tim, Tracy, Kip, Christy, Tiffany, Luke, Todd, Beth and Kent.
Twenty-Four Great Grandchildren: Brandon, Christian, Robin, Christie, Misty, Nichlaus, Stephen, Jill, Cheyne, Brittany, Cole, Cara, Adrianna, Gabriella, Clayton, Aurora, Alexis, Jeff, Addison, Chase, Kara,Katie, Brittany and Jamie.
Brother: Harold Nilep and his wife, Ardis of Devils Lake.
A Special Sister: Agnes “Babes” West
Many Nieces and Nephews also survive.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; daughter, Doris Johnson; a granddaughter, Zoann; two great grandsons, Justin and Gary Paul, brothers, Harry, Fritz, Thomas, Frank and Henry Nilep; sisters, Rosa, Mae and Grace in infancy.
