Adele Marie Johnson

Adele Marie Johnson, 56 of St. Michael, ND began her journey home to Heaven on Monday, April 24, 2017 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. She was surrounded by her loving family. Adele Marie was born on April 27, 1960 at Devils Lake, ND to the late Henry Sr. and Shirley (Cavanaugh) Johnson. She grew up in St. Michael and attended school at the Little Flower School in St. Michael, Warwick Public School and Warwick High School where she met Michael. Adele would spend 38 years with her high school sweetheart and loving companion Michael Cavanaugh Jr. Together they made their home in Fort Totten for many years and welcomed into this world two sons, Pernell and Tyrell.  Adele had a big heart and loved caring for her children as well as adopting her niece, Pamela Johnson in 1986.  Adele loved to work and had a variety of jobs including employment at Spirit Lake Housing Corporation for several years, then for 10 years she worked as a Housekeeping Supervisor at Spirit Lake Casino. Most recently, Adele had worked for the TERO Program with the Spirit Lake Tribe as a flagger on the road crew until she injured her back in an accident and was forced to retire from the work force.  But even with health problems, Adele’s number one concern was caring for her children and grandchildren.  In her younger days, Adele loved to be outdoors, mowing the lawn, gardening, planting flowers, outings and visiting with family and friends. She also was a champion Grass Dancer. When she had some free time, she enjoyed a trip to the casino for some fun.  Adele was the kindest, most loving person who was always filled with laughter and love. She always opened her door to anyone who needed a place to stay.   She will be missed but never forgotten by those whose lives she touched in such a special way. Adele is survived by her special companion Michael X. Cavanaugh Jr.; son Pernell Cavanaugh Sr. and Tyrell Cavanaugh Sr. both of St. Michael; adopted daughter Pamela Johnson of Fort Totten; brothers Kirk Johnson, Bismarck, ND, Henry Johnson Jr. and Wendell Johnson both of St. Michael; sisters Maureen Halsey, Bismarck and Pansy Johnson, Manitoba, Canada; special grandchildren Kylie Thompson, Shirley Johnson and Tyrell Cavanaugh Jr. and dear grandchildren Tyra Ann Cavanaugh, Chandler Cavanaugh, Kydra Cavanaugh, Kayden Cavanaugh, Pernell Cavanaugh Jr., Cassidy Cavanaugh, Kaydra Cavanaugh, Rylon Cavanaugh, Destiny Littlewind and Delwyn Littlewind Jr.; many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Selma Johnson and Eleanor Chapelle; brothers Mike Johnson and Clark Johnson; uncle Walter Cavanaugh Sr.; aunts Dellma Jackson and Lillian Demarce. Active Pallbearers for Adele will be Robert “Bob” Charboneau Sr., Waden Dubois, Cody Belgarde, Kelly Brown, Stacy Dubois and Tony Monroe. Honorary Pallbearers will be Alfreda Dunn, Violet Thompson, Julie and Roland Johnson, Carmen Hagar, Connie Baker, Sheila Littleghost, Brenda Belgarde, Laura Fournier, Phyllis Dubois, Lois Leben and Diane and Butch Lohnes.  A special thank you to Altru Hospital Staff, nurse Shelby B., Spirit Lake Health Center and the Spirit Lake Tribe.
