Arthur H. Myklebust, 96 of Starkweather, ND passed away on Monday, October 23, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake, ND. Funeral Services for Art will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity-Bergen Lutheran Church, Starkweather with Reverend Robert Buechler officiating. Burial will be in the Trinity-Bergen Cemetery, rural Starkweather. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Friday, October 27th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a time of prayer and remembrance at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday one hour prior to the funeral service.   Arthur H. Myklebust was born on December 26, 1920 at home in Sullivan Township, rural Starkweather, to John and Ingeborg (Breisness) Myklebust. Art attended Sullivan Township country school through the 4th grade and then attended Starkweather School, graduating in 1939.   On June 14, 1944, he married Doris Thorson. They had a double wedding with their good friends, Howard and Loraine Thacker. They made their home in rural Starkweather where they raised their six children. Art farmed with his father, retiring in the mid 80’s. In 1986 they moved off the farm and lived in his father’s home in Starkweather.   He was a lifelong member of Trinity Bergen Lutheran Church and served as a trustee. Art also served on the Starkweather School and Township Boards, was a member of the Eagles and Sons of Norway Clubs as well as a lifetime member of the DL Elks Lodge.   He loved to curl, dance and play cards with his buddies in whatever building was available to them. Art and Doris were active members of the Senior Center in Starkweather and in Devils Lake where they moved in 2005. They fondly refer to their Senior Center friends as their extended family.   Art moved into the Good Samaritan Center in the fall of 2016.   He is survived by his wife, Doris, of 73 years and children: David (Audrey) Myklebust and John (Sharlo) Myklebust, both of Devils Lake ND, Gordy (Mary Jo) Myklebust, Thief River Falls MN, Barb (Charlie) Scherzer, Detroit Lakes MN, Gary (Mary) Myklebust, Dilworth MN and Steve (Kathy) Myklebust, Grand Forks ND; 20 Grandchildren; 39 Great Grandchildren; 5 Great, Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law Don (Laura) Thorson, Bill (Sandy) Thorson, Gerald Thorson and sister-in-law Shirley O’Connell. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ted and Ben Myklebust, sisters Thelma Hunt and Inez Landis. Casket bearers for Art will be his grandsons Jeff, Neil, Patrick, Paul, Eric, Luke, Ryan, Dustin, Lee and Casey Myklebust and Mark Moench. Honorary Pallbearers are all of Art’s grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. Music will be provided by Maureen Bertsch and DJ Dockter, vocalists and Elizabeth Berg, organist.
