Arvella Marie Rainbow was born on April 1, 1970 at Bismarck, North Dakota, the daughter of Herbert “Hobo” Rainbow and Victoria Lones Arrow. She grew up in the Cannonball, North Dakota area and attended school there. With hard work and determination, she later earned her GED.
Arvella was united in marriage to Corbett McKay on June 2, 2007. They made their home in Devils Lake and later Fort Totten.
Arvella loved people and so enjoyed working in the housekeeping department at the Spirit Lake Casino for almost 3 years. She enjoyed her co-workers and of course meeting new people and also connecting each day with old friends and family. Arvella was into NFL football and was a Vikings fan through and through.
Arv loved her family. She treasured each time she got to visit them or talk with them on the phone. We had hoped for many more years with Arv, but will hold all those beautiful memories made through the years in our hearts forever.
In the past many months of her illness, Arv felt so blessed the be in the care of her husband, family and the special ones “Breeze and Sarah” from the Spirit Lake CHR Program. They went above and beyond their “job” to care for Arvella. We are also so grateful to the nurses of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Those who continue life here without Arvella include her husband Corbett McKay; mother Victoria(Sam) Ireland, Cannonball ND, sisters Cheryle (Neil) Standish, Mandan ND and Delora (Ron) Smith, also of Cannonball; brother Bob (Lois) Rainbow, Bismarck ND; son Taylon Two Horses and granddaughter Anna Taya Two Horses of Cannonball; stepchildren: Georgeline McKay and Santee Sioux McKay of OK and Brandon McKay of SD; Godchild Ezura Rainbow; in-laws Ramona (John) Chaske, Ronald (Connie) McKay, Lorraine McKay, Roger McKay, Deanna McKay and Murrey (Donna) McKay; many beloved aunts and uncles and numerous dear nieces and nephews and special auntie Loretta Mosbrucker of Mandan.
She was preceded in death by her father Herbert Rainbow, brother Kevin Rainbow, sister Denise Rainbow, paternal grandparents Joe Rainbow Sr. and Susan Black Fox Cavanaugh, maternal grandparents Bede and Mary Louise Lones Arrow.
The relatives and friends that touched the life of Arv in such a special way are just too numerous to mention. She treasured each of you dearly, she loved everybody she met. God bless each one of you.
Pallbearers for Arv will be Jesse Cavanaugh, Royce McKay, Roger J. Yankton Jr., Dana Yankton, Bob Rainbow, Jesse McKay III, Terry Morgan and Reuben Williams.
Honorary Bearers are her co-workers and many precious relatives and friends.
