Betty L. Cruse

Betty L. Cruse, 89 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Eventide Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake in the loving care of family. Betty Louise, daughter of Fred and Catherine (Yager) Cruse was born on August 17, 1927 at rural Doyon, ND. She grew up on the family farm at Doyon and attended Doyon Public School, graduating from Doyon High School with the class of 1945.  She continued her education at Lake Region Junior College and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Minot State Teacher’s College in 1949. Betty taught for a short time in Fargo before moving to Denver, Colorado where she taught the First grade at Denver Public Schools until she retired in 1984.  She was dedicated to her profession and her students and enjoyed membership in several Educators Associations.  After retiring, Betty moved back to the Lake Region, living in the Woodglen addition at Lakewood. She loved her home and took great pride in her lawn and yard.  She was envied by many neighbors and passer-byers for her beautiful yard.  Betty became very active in Peace Lutheran Church and Women’s Association and also as a volunteer at the local nursing homes.   Betty felt her move back to North Dakota was a great blessing as she was again close to family and dear friends. Betty is survived by her loving family. Her brothers Robert Cruse, Devils Lake and Neil Cruse, Houston, TX; nieces Deborah (Kyle) Zimmerman, Anaconda, MT; Vickie Heit, Kindred, ND; nephews Kevin Cruse and Scott (Gail) Cruse all of Devils Lake and several great nieces and great nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; brother Edward Cruse; nephews Kirby Cruse and Kent Cruse; sisters-in-law Joan Cruse and Claudia Cruse. Funeral Services for Betty will be held on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Reverend Lyle Belleque officiating. Burial will be in the Lakota Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday, June 8th from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and will continue at the church on Friday one hour prior to the funeral service. Casket Bearers for Betty will be Jason Gette, Scott Cruse, Kevin Cruse and Ronald Severtson. Reading Scripture will be Jason Gette. Music will be provided by Carleen Hanson and Brenda Swenseth.
