Betty M. Froelich

Betty M. Froelich passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Eventide Devils Lake Care Center at the age of 91. 

Betty Mae Martin was born on November 19, 1929, in Bismarck ND to Casey and Lillian (Hansen) Martin.  She was raised in Bismarck and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1947.  She then worked at the Q & R Clinic in Bismarck as a medical secretary.  

Betty was united in marriage to Donald Froelich on May 25, 1949, in Bismarck ND.  Throughout their married years they lived in Bismarck ND, Valley City, ND, Cloquet MN, and eventually Devils Lake ND where they made their home since 1959.  They were married 71 years, before Don passed away on August 30, 2020.  

Betty was a stay-at-home mom for many years, until she went to work in the Ramsey County Courthouse where she was the secretary for the Juvenile Division of the Northeast Judicial District Court.  She retired after 24 years of service, in 1993.    In her earlier years she was active in Devils Lake community clubs and activities.  She played darts for many years with the “Grandma’s” dart group and enjoyed Cowboy Rummy card tournaments.  She also enjoyed reading books and doing crossword puzzles.  

Betty is survived by her daughter, Donna Opoien (Dale Kuball) Pekin ND, and son, Thomas Froelich, Minot ND, Granddaughter Korrey Tweed (Cory Donohue) Pekin, ND, Grandson Brandon (Michelle) Tweed, Great Grandson Hunter Tweed and Great Granddaughter Kyla Tweed, of Dalton MN, and nieces and nephews in ND and CA.  

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don, sister Marian Kapsner, sister Florence Magallon, and son-in-law Allan Opoien.

Family and friends will gather at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. for a time of prayer with Reverend Lori Broschat officiating.  Graveside Services will be at the Devils Lake Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 9^th.
