Betty J. Moen, 84 of Devils Lake formerly of rural Churchs Ferry, ND passed away on Monday morning, December 18, 2017 at Eventide Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake in the loving care of her family and Altru Hospice.

Funeral Services for Betty will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Leeds Lutheran Church, Leeds, ND with Reverend Mike Pretzer officiating. Burial will be in the Norway Lutheran Cemetery in the spring. 

Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Tuesday, December 26th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and will continue at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. 

Betty Julaine, daughter of Alvin George and Ida Emma (Sorbel) Rasmussen was born on June 27, 1933 at Devils Lake, ND. She grew up in Devils Lake, attended Devils lake Public School and graduated from Central High. As a young woman, Betty worked at the Lakeview Café, Cox’s Bakery, Gambles and the Hamburger Host.  Betty married her high school sweetheart, John Sjoberg in 1954 and he died from lung cancer in 1956. 

As a young widow and mother of two, Jeffrey and Jolaine, she began a 12 year career at the 1st National Bank to provide for her family.  While working at the Bank, Betty occasionally waited on Thomas Milton Moen. Love happened and they were married on February 6, 1965 and shared 50 wonderful years of a beautiful life together and joyously welcomed Debra and Wanda to the family.  They made their home on the farm at rural Churchs Ferry until 2010 when they moved to Devils Lake.  Milt died on July 26, 2015. 

Betty was an active member of her church and community. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Churchs Ferry until it closed then joined the Leeds Lutheran Church. She served as the clerk and treasurer of Riggin Township for 23 years and also enjoyed membership in the Elkettes. 

Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandma to a family who loved and adored her. Her faith in God and her humor were two of the attributes that her family admired the most. 

Betty is survived by her loving family. Her children Jeffrey (Karen) Sjoberg of Prairie du Chien, WI, Jolaine (John) Smith, Devils Lake, Debra (David) Nybo, Fargo, ND and Wanda Follman, York, ND; grandchildren Blake (Cassie) Sjoberg, Brett (Heidi) Sjoberg and Kelley (Joe Breeser) Sjoberg; Brody (Sammi) Smith and Mackenzie (Jeff) Hogg; Mattea Nybo; Spencer, Shelby and Sloane Follman; great grandchildren Kaleb, Dakota; Avery, Kendall, Jobi, Arie; many nieces, nephews and their families. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands John Sjoberg and Milt Moen, son-in-law Todd Follman, brother Wayne Rasmussen and sister Ione Boehmer.

Casket Bearers will be John Smith, David Nybo, Spencer Follman, Brody Smith, Blake Sjoberg, Brett Sjoberg and Jeff Hogg. Honorary Bearers will be will be Betty’s grandchildren and great grandchildren.
