Byron H. Hassett, 74 of Devils Lake passed away on Monday, November 4, 2024 at Eventide Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake.

Byron Howard Hassett, son of James and Jean (Sparks) Hassett was born on September 7, 1950, in Devils Lake, ND. He lived and worked and called Devils Lake home most of his life.

Byron attended school in Devils Lake until entering the United States Navy on November 26, 1968. He proudly and honorably served his country during the Vietnam War, stationed in the Philippines. He was honorably discharged from active duty on April 3, 1972, with the rank of Navy Fireman. He continued with the reserves until November 25, 1974.

After his discharge, he returned to Devils Lake and worked odd jobs, working as a truck driver, EMT and a welder. He then moved to Rugby ND, where he continued his welding career at Rugby Manufacturing. He made many friends through the years.

Byron was at one time married to Julie Olson and they were the proud parents of Heather and Carey.

Byron was a people person. He loved to visit with anyone and everyone. He had such a delightful sense of humor that he passed down to his daughters. He enjoyed gardening and the outdoors. No day was complete without a few cups of coffee and a Dr. Pepper. He treasured his family so dearly. They all meant the world to him.

For the past 15 years, Byron was a resident of the Good Samaritan Center until it closed and then Eventide Heartland Care Center. He was always the resident that put a smile on everyone’s face, and he always made the day just a little bit brighter.

Byron is survived by his loving family. His precious daughters Heather Adcox, Fargo ND and Carey Hassett, Minot, ND; dear grandchildren Callie Adcox, Augusta GA and Pilar Adcox, Fargo: Cameron Logan and Chloe Gadson both of Minot; sweet great grandchild Lyrah Thorson; siblings Sandra (John) Horton, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Lee (Sandra) Hassett, Buxton ND, Phyllis Hassett, Kalama, Washington, Shelley (Bob) Brackemyer, North Little Rock, Arkansas and Janine (Paul) Kalinowski Hoosick Falls, New York; sister-in-law Kathy Hassett Stinkeoway Devils Lake; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
