Charles W. Shipley

Charles W. Shipley, 82 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND in the loving care of his family and Altru Hospice.   Charles Wayne Shipley born July 8th, 1935 to parents George and Margaret (Vanderlin) Shipley.   Chuck was born at the General Hospital in Devils Lake, North Dakota. He was raised on a farm three and half miles north of Devils Lake. He attended Washington Elementary and graduated in 1953 from Central High School in Devils Lake. In high school, he enjoyed playing basketball and he was the Secretary of the Ag program in 1952 and 1953. After graduation Chuck worked on his parent’s farm.   On June 2nd, 1958 he was united in marriage to Eileen Marie Deitz. They called Devils Lake home where they lived and raised their six children, Mark, Donna, Charlene, Scott, Trent and Jeffrey. During that time they owned and operated Chuck’s Superette "The Little Green Store" grocery store. He then worked for Groves-Kelco for 7 years as an on-the-road salesman of general merchandise; 40 years at Somody Supply as an on-the-road salesman for health and beauty aids. During Chuck's retirement, he drove cars for 18 years for Lake Chevrolet and for 6 years delivered The Morning Edition for Reslock Printing.   If you were to ask Chuck what his greatest joys in life were, he would tell you: duck and goose hunting with the boys; spending time at the lake with the family; golfing; and going to coffee with the Coffee Crew. Earl Hanson, Chuck mentioned frequently when talking about golf and just that he was one heck of a good guy and friend. He is survived by his children Mark (Rebecca Olson) Shipley, Donna (Robert) Reierson, all of Devils Lake, Charlene (Terry) Peterson, Scott (Barb) Shipley, all of Fargo, ND, Trent (Angela Hillyard) Shipley, of Rockford, MN and Jeffrey (Maria) Shipley of Christine, ND. His grandchildren include; Jessica Shipley, Dierdre (Tyler) Hausauer, Justin (Mary) Mertens, Shanene (Ryan) Stromme , Joseph (Betsy) Reierson, Brock, Niki and Trent Reierson, Sheena and Sean Peterson, Ashley Buckley, Matthew Buckley, Ashley (Thomas) Schwartz, Jessi (Ryan) Brunner, Samantha and Alex Henderson, Amanda and Kevin Shipley and  Deke and Red, yellow labs. Great grandchildren include; Rawley and Callan Hausauer; Weston, Scarlett, and Sophie Stromme, Lukas and Samuel Reierson, Brayden and Hudson Brunner, Thomas Bean and Eastyn Eichelberger, Michael, Kasia, Samantha, Annabelle, and Blaythe Buckley and his sister Karen (Ernie) Osowski and their family.    He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Margaret, his brother George Jr., and grandson Michael Buckley.
