Dale Forest Bloomquist was born July 29, 1929 the youngest of twins, to Mathias and Jennie (Anderson) Bloomquist in a small house on 4th Street in Devils Lake ND. They were delivered by a nurse mid-wife. Dale grew up on the family farm north of Devils Lake and attended St. Mary’s Academy. Dale joined the US Navy with his twin brother Carl and they started their training at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. Dale served his country 4 years in the Navy, first on a Heavy Cruiser then on a Destroyer Tender. Most of his service overseas during the Korean Conflict was in the Mediterranean. After his discharge from service he returned home to Devils Lake and worked with relatives in the restaurant and helped his older brother Jim with his farm. Dale worked for many years for Schwan Wholesale in Devils Lake delivering beer and supplies to bars all around the Lake Region. He was the “Old Man” to all the other drivers. Dale never married and he considered his beloved nephews and nieces his “children” and we all adored him. After his “retirement” he traveled to all our homes and spent time with us and our families. Cherished memories for us all. Dale helped start the Dakota Bull Session in Devils Lake and was a member of the VFW Honor Guard, marching in many Parades and Posting Colors for countless Memorial and Veterans Days. He was honored to “fire salute” at funerals of fellow veterans. He was a past State president of the Cooties, a 60 year member of the IOOF and life member of the ELKS. He enjoyed having morning coffee with friends regularly at several spots around town. He rarely told much about what he was doing but was always asking what was new and exciting in your life. Such a great life example. Dale witnessed farming develop from walking behind horses to getting into the CAT on his nephew CJ’s farm helping him chisel plow. He always asked if we needed help on the farm. Dale spent his last years first at the IOOF apts. and IOOF home in Devils Lake and finally at Heartland Care. He was always grateful for the care he received from his “darlings”. Dale was a truly Christian man with a life lived as a “Good Samaritan”. He offered his help to any in need with no expectation of any reward in this life. He will be richly rewarded in Heaven. He is survived by his twin brother Carl (Alta) Bloomquist of Devils Lake ND. sister-in-law Betty Bloomquist of Devils Lake ND. Nephews; CJ Bloomquist, Rudi (Dianne) Bloomquist, John Jennings, Nieces; Siggie (Phil) Stillman, Elsa (Tom) Guiney, Cecila (Ken) Lingle, Caryl (Bob) Rutten and all their families; several cousins in Sweden, Sven-eric Malmberg and others. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jim Bloomquist and sister Ione and brother-in-law Norman Jennings. God Speed Uncle Dale.
