Dale I. Nelson

Dale I. Nelson, 54 of Devils Lake ND passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at CHI, St. Alexius Health, Devils Lake Hospital after a courageous, hard fought three year battle against cancer.

There will be a celebration of life for Dale on Sunday, May 24, 2020 at Roosevelt Park, Devils Lake from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m.

Dale Ivan Nelson was born on October 18, 1965 in Minot ND the son of DuWaine and Maybelle (DePriest) Nelson. When Dale was an infant, the family moved to Rhode Island for a time, then returned to Minot.  He was educated at Nedrose School in Minot and after a move to Minnewaukan, Dale graduated from Minnewaukan High School with the class of 1984.  He continued his education at Mayville State College. 

After college, Dale returned to Minnewaukan and began a 20 plus year career with Gerrells Sports Center. He was a sports fanatic, watching all sports so he was very good at his job and worked to serve his customers the best he could.  After retiring from Gerrells, Dale worked for a time at Cenex East but most recently was the Sporting Goods Department Manager at WalMart. 

In 2000 Dale married Danyelle McKay and they were the proud parents to Hailey Nelson.

Along with being a sports fan, he had a real passion for SyFy, Star Wars, was an avid reader and loved to watch wrestling on TV. He also enjoyed many years playing darts and was a member of Thirsty’s Wolf Pack League. 

We will miss you so very much and will keep the beautiful memories treasured in our hearts forever.

Dale’s loving family include his daughter Hailey Nelson; sisters Lori (Nathan) Mosser and Alice Nelson all of Devils Lake and her children (Dale’s nephews) Aaron Armentrout (Kylee), Fargo ND and Devin Dugdale, Devils Lake and other special nieces and nephews including Cheryl McKay; best friends Dean Morken and Kenny Aaslason and those special kids who called him “Daddy Dale KaeDynce, Tucker and Braydon Burkhard.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
