Darlene Marie Berube
November 5, 1934 – February 12, 2025
Darlene M. (Grenier) Berube, 90, of Fargo, North Dakota passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Elim Health Care Center in Fargo, North Dakota.
She was born November 5, 1934, in Rolette, ND. She was the daughter of Lucien and Gladys (Greenwood) Grenier. She was the second of five children, they were raised on the family farm in Thorne, N.D.
After graduating in 1952 from Notre Dame Academy (Willow City), she attended Minot Business College receiving her certificate as a Secretarial Receptionist. She was employed at Olson’s Electric Company in Minot, ND prior to 1953.
Darlene married Leonel Berube on October 29, 1953, at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Thorne, ND. Together they raised 8 children: Rick (Nancy) Berube of Valley City, ND and Mesa, AZ. Al (Jana) Berube of Perham, MN, Susan (Ole) Halvorson of Highlands Ranch, CO, Jayme (Michelle) Berube of Rugby, ND and Mesa, AZ, Lori (Tarrol) Lunde of Fargo, ND and Mesa, AZ, Daren (Jennifer) Berube of Vergas, MN, Corey (Donell) Berube of Pine City, MN. Baby Wayde was born February 8, 1963, and went to meet the Lord on October 5, 1963.
She and Leonel moved many times, mostly in and around Rolette County. A move in 1959 to Seattle, WA was an exception, moving back to North Dakota after a short stay.
Her time was spent mostly raising the children while Leonel farmed. She loved playing piano and was in a band called the Top Hats. Also playing piano at the Durum House in Cando, Lee’s Bar in Rugby, Wagon Wheel in Rolette, and Kerstern’s Lounge in Bottineau. Darlene and Leonel loved bowling, she also enjoyed crocheting and especially dancing.
After Leonel passed away in 1982 (Lung Cancer) Darlene moved to Rolette, ND. She worked for R & O Contractors, did housecleaning in the community and for the priest at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She moved to Fargo, ND in November 1999. Darlene met many friends and spent a lot of time dancing at the VFW in West Fargo. Elvis Presley music was her favorite and any chance she could, she’d find where Tom Patton would perform as Elvis and be there singing and dancing along!
Along with her loving children Darlene is survived by her 19 grandchildren and 19 Great-Grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Leonel Berube, her son Wayde, parents Lucien and Gladys (Greenwood) Grenier, Siblings: Shirley (Terry) Scott, Lavonne (Robert) Aamodt, Julie (Don) Potter, brother Ronald Grenier and daughter-in-law Nancy.
Mass of Christian Burial for Darlene will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rolette ND with burial in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, rural Rolette.
In lieu of flowers, any memorials will be directed to Darlene's favorite charities.
