David Michael Keo, 38, “Wiyaka To“ (Blue Feather) passed away on Friday, November 19, 2021 at his home in the loving care of his family and Hospice of the Red River Valley.
A Wake will be held at the Crow Hill Wellness Center on Friday, November 26, 2021 beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service and time of remembrance at 7:00 p.m. The procession to Crow Hill will leave on Friday at 4:00 p.m. from the City Plaza in Devils Lake. Funeral Services will be on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Larry Thiele officiating and David will be laid to rest in St. Jerome’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Fort Totten.
David Michael was born on January 20, 1983 at Devils Lake ND the son of Dennis Keo and Cheryl (Thomas) Keo. He grew up in Crow Hill and attended Four Winds School in Fort Totten.
David worked a variety of jobs for the Spirit Lake Tribe, including several years at Dakota Tribal Industries, worked on construction as a roofer, did snow removal and was at one time the dog catcher for Spirit Lake. Most recently, David worked at the Spirit Lake Casino and Resort.
David was frequently found playing basketball or fishing with friends and family. He was always up for any adventure, willing to go along for the ride anywhere someone wanted to go, he would go along. When he wasn’t playing basketball, he was watching NBA or UFC on TV. The most important part David’s life was spending time with his family. He loved his family with all his heart, they were his treasure.
David’s loving family include his son Dequan Keo; father Dennis Keo; brothers Chadd Keo, Clint Keo and Mitchell Keo; sisters Robbi Lynn Milton and Charris Thomas; uncles Ronnie Keo and Rudy Keo; aunties Joyce YoungBear, Elenore Keo and Maureen Keo; grandmother Lorraine GreyBear; many nieces and nephews who meant the world to him.
He was preceded in death by his mother Cheryl, brother Duane Keo, uncles Casey Thomas, Jack Keo, Milton Thomas, Richard Thomas, Timothy Thomas, Mike Thomas, grandparents Aileen Wahwassuck, Keith F. Keo, Richard “Boke” Thomas and Winnifred “Winnie” Thomas, cousin Kendall YoungBear.
Active Pallbearers will be Alton Nestell, Mitchell Keo, Dequan Keo, Clint Keo, Wade Nestell, Adrian Thomas Jr., Tyson WhiteTail, Garrett “Gopher” Mudgett, Durell Keo, Chadd Keo Sr. and Loren GreyBear Sr. Honorary Bearers are Raphael Barragan, Joey Robertson, Vernell DeMarce, Londa Keo and family, Winter Hawk OldRock, Jim Brown, Chico Diaz, Tyler Thomas, Terrell Thomas, Valentine Martin, Reno Littleghost, Myron GreyBear, Chauncy Hopkins, Jadean Alberts, Allison Shaw, Alyssa Shaw, Antoine Eback and the staff of Devils Lake Hospice.
Ivan Lovejoy Drum Group and any other Drummers and Singers are welcome to share their songs in memory of David.
