David S. Schuler

David S. Schuler, 82 of Devils Lake formerly of Washburn and Edmore, ND passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at the Veterans Medical Center in Fargo, ND

David Samuel, son of Fred and Christina Schuler was born on February 29, 1936 at Washburn, North Dakota where he was reared and educated, graduating from Washburn High School.

David enlisted in the United States Navy on September 27, 1955 at Fargo, ND and proudly served his country as an Aviation Structural Mechanic at the U.S. Naval Air Station at Lakehurst, New Jersey and also some time in sea service. David was honorably discharged on September 26, 1961 with the rank of AM2.  While in the Navy, David was united in marriage to Kay Johnson on August 31, 1957 and they were the proud parents of Kirby, Scott, Todd, Tim and Jeffrey.

The family established their home on the farm at rural Washburn. David farmed and also worked on the Garrison Diversion Project, drove the Washburn School bus and also worked at the Washburn Leader in the production department.  Eventually David sold the farm and attended the Moller Barber School in Fargo.  In 1967 they moved to Edmore and when the opportunity came to become owner and operator of Lake Barber Shop in the Holiday Mall, David moved the family to Devils Lake.  Kay died on September 11, 1989.

For 25 plus years, David operated Lake Barber Shop, retiring in September of 1994. David was blessed to find love again, and was married to Helen Davis on March 3, 1991.  They made their home in Edmore, Minnesota and back to Devils Lake.

David tended his beautiful yard and gardens with a caring and nurturing hand and tended his soul with that same determination and attitude by reading his Bible and other religious books fervently. He enjoyed membership in the Eagles Lodge and DAV and a good day of fishing always brought a smile.  David was a people person and thoroughly enjoyed each of his customers, their conversations and treasured the many blessings of friends and family through the years.

David was a devoted husband, proud Dad and Grandpa, loving brother, uncle, dedicated serviceman and a child of God who has gone home to his Lord and Savior.

David’s loving family include his wife Helen Schuler, Devils Lake; sons Kirby Schuler, St. Mary’s, Georgia, Scott (Stacy) Schuler, San Antonio, TX, Todd (Susan) Schuler, Woodbury, MN, Tim Schuler, also of San Antonio, Jeffrey (Lisa) Schuler, Plymouth, MN and step son Kevin (Renae) Yali of Crary, ND; grandchildren Ronnie Joe Schuler, Callie Schuler, Casey (Hannah) Schuler, Brianna Schuler, Nicholas Schuler, Peyton Schuler, Mason Schuler and David Yali; sister Ilene (Ron) Sieler, Bismarck, ND and many nieces, nephews and their families.
