David Joel Togstad was born on February 14, 1959 at Devils Lake, ND the son of Joel and Ffalliott (Midstokke) Togstad.  He was raised and educated in Devils Lake, graduating from Devils Lake High School with the class of 1977.  David played hockey from first grade through his Senior year and well into his 40s. With Joel’s help, he rebuilt his first scooter at age 8, which lead to him racing his customized Indian dirt bike in Junior Motor Cross competitions through his teens.  David was a charter member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, the church where he was confirmed.

David lived most of his life in the Lake Region, but in the 1980’s he worked for Murphy Sheet Metal, a company out of California, where he was involved in the installment of skylights in large commercial buildings around the United States.  In the early 1990’s, David made his home in Bayfield, Colorado doing construction and ranching.  David returned to Devils Lake and worked for many years at Woodland Resort. His jobs were various including maintenance, part of the ice fishing crew and also did some guide work.  David was employed at Summers Manufacturing for a time and at the time of his death was employed at Walmart.  David enjoyed the farm life as well and worked for various farmers in the area when needed.

David was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener.  He loved to cook and was well known for his ability to make the best Norwegian Potato Dumplings and share them with family and friends.  He faithfully watched the NASCAR circuit, NFL football and read every book Tom Clancy wrote.  David had the gift and ability to fix or build just about anything. He was proud to say that he inherited this trait from his father, Joel.  David was a dog lover. Drizzle and Misty were part of his past but he now had Hawkeye as part of his life the past 12 years.

David will be so very missed by his family. His sisters Diane Togstad of Bayfield, Colorado and Pam (David) Steffen of Devils Lake; nieces Sarah Aamot and fiancé, Andrew Cundiff, also of Bayfield, Hannah Steffen, Houston, TX and Sydney Steffen, Devils Lake; great nephew Clayton Cundiff; uncle Harris Togstad, Devils Lake; aunt Shirley Midstokke, Devils Lake; and several cousins.
