David A. Walford

David A. “Dave” Walford passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Center in Lakota, ND.

David was born on November 12, 1939 in Devils Lake, ND the son of Alfred and Rosemary “Babe” (Thompson) Walford.

David attended school in Doyon, ND, graduating in 1957. David served with the United States Army in Korea and Vietnam from 1963 to 1965 as a Military Policeman. (MP) After his discharge, David served as a Police Officer for Devils Lake Police Department and as a Deputy for Ramsey County Sheriff’s Department.  David was also a Special Investigator for the Ramsey County States Attorney.  David took great pride in being a Law Enforcement Officer. 

Subsequent to his law enforcement career, David went into ranching. He also worked on many of the lake projects in and around North Dakota.

David married Gladys Deitz on November 5, 1960, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Devils Lake. They have three children: Ronald of Devils Lake, Alan (Suzanne) of Elko, MN and Sandra of Milwaukee, WI. They have six grandchildren: Macenzie, Madison, Abby, Emily, Lucas and Wyatt.  He is also survived by brothers John Walford, Tolna, ND, Kenneth (Carol) Walford, Warwick, ND, Robert (Beverly) Walford, Bismarck, ND, William (Beverly) Walford, Devils Lake, Lawrence (Sherry) Walford, also of Devils Lake and sister Carol (Gene) Kackman, Fargo, ND; sisters-in-law Eileen Railing, Devils Lake and Ginger Deitz, Fargo.  David is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Rosemary, a sister and brothers-in-law Mary and Vernon Rolf, Frank Deitz, Chuck Shipley and Maurice Railing, nephew Mark Shipley and niece Leah Lund.

The Family of David would like to give a big Thank You to Dr. Downs, as well as the excellent staff at the Lakota Good Samaritan Center, the Devils Lake Veterans Affairs Office, Altru Clinics and Hospital. They were all so kind during this very difficult time.

Funeral Services for Dave will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ramsey County Event Center, rural Devils Lake, ND with Father Steven Wirth officiating.   Friends may call at the Event Center on Friday beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of service.  Lunch will be served immediately following the funeral service. Graveside Services will be held at the Devils Lake Cemetery on Friday at 1:30 p.m. with Military Honors accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team.  

Honorary Pall Bearers for David are his brothers John, Kenneth, Robert, William and Lawrence and his sister Carol.

David is in the care of the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake
