Debra Kay Skow was born on November 28, 1956 to Warren and Marie (Sandanger) Skow in Devils Lake, North Dakota. She was raised in Devils Lake until moving to Grand Forks in 1964 to attend the North Dakota School for the Blind, she remained there until 1973.
In 1991, Debra moved to Williston and began receiving support from Opportunity Foundation. Over the years she has worked at TNT Services, OSOM Carwash, Williston Recycling Center, and most recently at Second Opportunity Restore. She also volunteered at McVay Elementary School reading braille books to children in kindergarten and head start.
Debra had a remarkable memory, she could always remember everyone’s name and birthdate. Debra was a Christian and loved to sing songs including “Jesus Christ Superstar” and “Amen.” She enjoyed listening to records as a child and developed a vast knowledge of the music and lyrics. She had a great sense of humor and loved to joke around with others. She loved to make everyone laugh and smile. She loved her cat, Tiger, loved going shopping and hanging out with her friends. She also loved the color blue, you could always find her wearing blue nail polish and blue clothing.
Surviving Debra are her sisters, Judith Prentiss of Minneapolis, MN, Sharon Sandanger of Anoka, MN and Cynthia Skow of St. Louis Park, MN; nieces and nephews, Paula and Peter Prentiss, Jayson Skow, Kevin Waller and Cinda Waller and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Preceding Debra in death were her parents, Warren and Marie Skow; grandparents, Nels and Lula Effie Skow and several close friends.
Debra’s sisters would like to thank Opportunity Foundation for the great care and support, it has been a significant part of her life. We appreciate it from the bottom of our heart.
