Delmarie Joy Good Iron, “Nihsha Adáarish” (Comes Out Dancing)
Joy Good Iron, beloved daughter of Delwayne “Brooks” and Veronica (Yellow Wolf) Good Iron. She was born in Watford City ND on February 27, 1974. She began her journey to the Spirit World on March 30, 2020. She was a proud member of the Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara Nation.
To many, Joy was a mom or an auntie. She loved sharing stories with everybody, almost as much as she loved dancing. Joy traveled throughout Indian Country, following the pow-wow trail with her many friends and beloved family. She was an all- around championship dancer.
Joy later attended Candeska Cikana Community College for business administration. She then briefly attended the University of North Dakota for business until she started working with Early Childhood Development. Due to health issues, Joy was not able to pursue furthering her education.
Joy battled with her health for most of her life, nonetheless she was a strong, courageous woman. There was never a moment you saw Joy without a smile on her face. Joy always found a bright side to every situation in her life. She will be missed dearly, but now she is dancing in the sky.
Joy is survived by Sara Marie LaCroix, Skyla Felix, Delrita “Rosee” Good Iron, her loving daughters; Johnna Good Iron and Carter Thompson her niece and grandson; Jennie Peterson-Gourd, her adopted daughter; Maggie Jones, adopted sister; brothers and sisters James Tomahawk, Dawnette Nielsen, Jolene, Andrea, Lolita and AJ Redman, Jackie Tsonetcky, Jason GoodBlanket, Eric Anquoe, Dave Campbell, Kim Chaske and Dennis Pashe; aunts Mary “YW” Gachupin, Martha Birdbear, Victoria Tarrants, Darlene “Dolly” Good Iron and Joan Church; uncle Les Yellow Wolf; special family Elisha Poulsen, Kenneth Baker Jr., Kyle Lawrence, Douglas Lawrence, Joseph Lawrence and Sammy Lawrence and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by his parents Brooks and Veronica, brother John Good Iron, paternal grandparents Bruno and Dorothy Good Iron, maternal grandparents John and Thelma Yellow Wolf, grandmas Frances Yellow Wolf and Kathleen Yellow Wolf and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Friday, April 3, 2020 from 12:00 noon until 3:30 p.m. with a graveside service at 4:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Cemetery, St. Michael, ND.
