Delores Mae Yankton

Delores M. Yankton, 74 of St. Michael, ND passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Sanford Medical Center, Bismarck, ND with loving family at her side. 

A Wake for Delores will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 beginning at 5:45 p.m. at St. Michael’s Wellness Center with a Rosary and Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. The procession to St. Michael will leave on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. from the City Plaza, Devils Lake.

Funeral Services for Delores will be held on Wednesday, July 11^th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Wellness Center with Father Paul Schuster officiating.  Delores will be laid to rest in St. Jerome’s Cemetery, rural Fort Totten. 

Delores Mae was born on December 5, 1943, at Devils Lake, the daughter of Percy and Elizabeth (Two Hearts) Cavanaugh. She was raised and educated on the Spirit Lake Nation and at 18 left home to see the world and thus gained the nickname “Gypsy” (around home she was also known as “Girlie”).  She lived and worked in many different places.  She worked as a meat cutter in several meat packing plants across the country.  She received training as a nurse and worked as the Four Winds School Nurse for many years. 

She was united in marriage to Giles Yankton and they enjoyed 20 years of love and marriage before his death on September 6, 2012.

Delores loved her family and treasured time spent with them. We will miss our dear mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend.  Our Gypsy now travels on to her home in Heaven. 

Delores’s loving family include her children Kimberly (Dave) Gordon, Jody Arttus, Margaret (Willard) Chaske, Mark Mindt, Bruce Mindt, Kevin Mindt and Kelly (Rick) Minor; grandchildren MegAnn Arttus, Veronica (Devin) Hazlett and David Ryan Pryde; Samantha Heley; Montana, Cameron, Willard Jr., Wanbdi, Reggie, Blakeley and Berkeley Chaske; Elizabeth and Jodie Touche; Greg, Mary, Christine, Amanda and Mariah Mindt; Tim Jr. and Kayla Buckwitz; many great grandchildren who were very dear to Grandma Delores; brother Roman “Butch” Cavanaugh and sister Myra Quinn; many nieces and nephews and extended family, Delores loved so much. Delores loved and treasured her animals Bear, Tonka and Garfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband Giles Yankton; brothers: Hank Cavanaugh Tim Cavanaugh George Cavanaugh James Cavanaugh Dominick Cavanaugh and her parents Elizabeth (Two Hearts) Cavanaugh and Percy Cavanaugh 

Pallbearers for Delores will be Montana Chaske, Reggie Chaske, Cameron Chaske, Will Chaske Jr., Conrad Cavanaugh, Reggie Cavanaugh, Leon Helland and David Pryde.
