Denise E. Urvand

Denise Urvand, 63, of Devils Lake ND passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. 

Gathering of family and friends on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  Funeral Services on Monday, June 27, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Michael Flowers officiating. Burial will be in the Pekin Cemetery at 3:15 p.m. with a time of fellowship to follow at the Pekin Community Center.

Denise Elaine was born on March 5, 1959 in McVille, ND the daughter of LeRoy and Marise (Clemo) Morken. She grew up and was educated in McVille, graduating from McVille High School with the class of 1977. 

Denise was united in marriage to Mark Urvand on September of 1978 and joyously welcomed their only child Mark “Markie” Urvand on February 20, 1984. 

Over the years Denise worked at the Ben Franklin store uptown. she was also employed by Dumont and Associates, Target Roofing, and at the time of her passing was employed at the Odd Fellows Home, which she enjoyed so much.

Denise’s son Mark was the center of her world from the day he was born.  She also loved her nieces and nephews and enjoyed posting pictures of them on Facebook when it was their birthday. If you looked at her phone right now you would find 14, 000 pictures of family and friends. 

Denise’s loving family include her son Mark  Urvand; father of her son Mark Urvand;  sister Julie (Kendall) Peterson; Brian (Jodie) Morken and Pete Morken all of Devils Lake; brothers-in-law Rick (Dianne) Urvand, McVille, Ronald Knutson, Tolna, ND, Gary Johnson, Salem OR; sister-in-law Tammy Morken, Devils Lake; 19 nieces and nephews; 46 great nieces and great nephews; 27 great great nieces and great great nephews; special friend Pam Kraft. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law Lester and Ruth Urvand, sisters Darlette Johnson and Gayette Knutson, brother George Morken, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Larry and Lorraine Urvand, nephews Jamey Hall, Shaun Hall and Samuel Somerville, many aunts, uncles and cousins. 

Casket Bearers will be Ron Knutson, Lynn Urvand, Kendall Peterson Jr., Shane Cavanaugh Sr., Shane Cavanaugh Jr., Reilly Morken, Mike Kearney, Ben Alter, Justin Kraft, and Keven Kubat. Honorary Pallbearers are the Lunacy MC and will be leading the procession to the cemetery.
