Donna B. Borgerson (Hanson)

Donna Beth (Hanson) Borgerson, 83, of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Center in Bottineau, ND. We thank the staff for the love and care they’ve given her throughout the final years of her life.

Funeral services for Donna will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethel Evangelical Free Church in Devils Lake. Pastor Bruce Dick will officiate and she will be buried in the Devils Lake Cemetery beside her husband, Ray. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Wednesday, November 28^th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service and Time of Remembrance at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation on Thursday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. 

Serving as casket bearers for Donna will be her sons Loren and Keith, and her sons-in-law Steven Lynn, Stuart Young and Tom Cote.

Donna Beth, the daughter of Ole and Phyllis (Weston) Hanson, Jr. was born on December 25, 1934 in Brycelin, MN. Donna grew up on a farm near Brycelin, MN until her family moved to a farm near New Rockford, ND in 1942.  She attended her first eight years at Columbia Country School near Branford, ND and attended New Rockford High School in grades nine through twelve, graduating in 1953.

Donna was united in marriage to Raymond Borgerson on September 4, 1953 at New Rockford, ND. The first year they were married Ray began working for Otter Tail Power Company and the family lived in several towns, including Bottineau, Minot, Rugby, Langdon and Devils Lake. When he went to work for Nodak Rural Electric they were stationed in Grand Forks for one year, Edinburg for eight years and in 1963 moved to Devils Lake where they made their home through the years. Donna worked at Wang’s, Woolworth’s, Cox’s and Leever’s Bakeries, as head checker and head of the S&H Department at Marv and Leo’s Red Owl.  Ray retired in 1986 and they purchased The Bible Book and Shop where Donna had been working. They eventually changed the name to The Master’s Tools and continued as owners and operators until Ray was called home on October 8, 2009. Donna continued to run the store until it was sold in 2012.

In her younger years, she served as a leader for Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and 4-H and enjoyed bowling. Donna was an active member of Bethel Evangelical Free Church. She was involved in Gideon’s, taught Sunday School, helped with MOPS, Awana, Women’s Ministry and other leadership roles at Bethel.  She loved attending Bible Studies and eventually led Sunday night Bible Studies by Beth Moore.

Donna loved serving the Lord and was able to do so through her church and the ministry of The Master’s Tools where many went through the doors. She loved everyone unconditionally. She was always there with a smile, a visit, a hug, prayers and love for anyone who needed it.  She also loved to read as well as grow flowers.  The Lord and her family were priorities in her life and we will miss her every day until we join her in heaven.

Donna is survived by her children, Loren Borgerson of Bottineau, Joni and her husband Steven Lynn of Glendive, MT, Carol and her husband Stuart Young of Devils Lake, Keith Borgerson and his wife Cindy of Manvel, ND, Diane and her husband Tom of Bottineau, ND; twenty grandchildren, twenty nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; sisters Carol Ann Hoffman of Littleton, CO, and Margie and her husband Bob Volk of Casselton, ND; many nieces, nephews and their children also survive.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband Raymond, her parents, her brother Robert Hanson and his wife Ethel; her sister Beverly, infant twin brothers Donald and Dean; her brother-in-law Myrle Hoffman; her daughter-in-law Jody Borgerson; one grandchild and one great grandchild.
