Doris B. (Eckerdt) Eckes, 88 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Wednesday evening, August 1, 2018 at Eventide Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake in the loving care of her family.
Funeral Services for Doris will be held on Monday, August 6, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Eventide Heartland Care Center Chapel with Pastor Rachel Johnson, Chaplain at Eventide officiating. Doris will be laid to rest in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Chapel on Monday beginning at 12:00 noon until time of service.
Doris Beverly Eckerdt, daughter of Conrad and Carrie Eckerdt was born on February 23, 1930 in Sarles, ND where she was reared and educated, graduating from Sarles High School.
She was united in marriage to William H. Eckes on November 16, 1951 at Rolla, ND. They lived several places in their first years of marriage and then in 1957 moved to Devils Lake and would call it home for the rest of their lives. In 2013, Doris moved to Heartland Care Center.
Doris was employed at the North Dakota School for the Deaf for many years, working as a baker, cook and night watchman. But first and foremost, Doris was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to cook and bake for her family and was famous for her homemade buns and cookies, always making sure she had everyone’s favorites on hand. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were so very special to her and they were her pride and joy.
Doris’s loving family include her children Dennis (Sue) Eckes, Devils Lake, Diane Soper, Grand Forks, Connie (Bruce) Kirk, Hemet, CA, Colleen (Tom Grinde) Eckes, also Grand Forks, Jeanne (Greg) Schafer and Linda (Dave Johnson) Eckes all of Devils Lake; ten grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; sister Dorothy Olson, Rock Lake, ND and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill on August 29, 2016, son-in-law Sam Soper and brothers Veryl and Kenneth Eckerdt.
Casket Bearers for Doris will be Dennis Eckes, David Johnson Sr., David Johnson Jr. and Greg Schafer. Music will be provided by Susie Peterson and Jean Aardahl.
