Dorothy (Anderson) Kitterman, 95 of Devils Lake formerly of Leeds, ND passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Eventide Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Dorothy will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Reverend Jim Paulson officiating. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Tuesday, October 17th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and will continue on Wednesday at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Dorothy (Anderson) Kitterman, 95 of Devils Lake formerly of Leeds, ND passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Eventide Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Dorothy Was born December 30, 1921 in Springfield Township, Towner County, the daughter of Swedish Immigrants, Frank Otto and Anna (Johnson) Anderson. She was baptized at the family farm. When she was 6 years old, the family moved to Leeds, ND where she attended school, graduating from Leeds High School in 1940. After High School she attended Concordia College for one year then transferred to the Agriculture College in Fargo (later known as NDSU) where she received a degree in Home Economics Education. After graduation she taught Home Economics in Velva, ND for 2 years, Minot, ND for 3 years and then in her home town of Leeds for 21 years. While teaching in Leeds she was coordinating teachers for NDSU working with many student teachers. She was also a caretaker for her mother. On December 19, 1970 she married Robert “Bob” Kitterman. They made their home in Leeds and on a farm in Grand Harbor Township, rural Devils Lake moving into Devils Lake in 2007. Robert passed away August 29, 2010. They shared many happy years of courtship and marriage. In retirement from teaching, she pursued an interest in art and took oil painting lessons in Cando and Devils Lake. For a few years she was a volunteer 5th and 6th grade Art Teacher in Leeds. She also regularly visited relatives and friends in the nursing homes. She was chosen an Unsung Hero in 2008. Dorothy was a confirmed member of Leeds Lutheran Church, later joining St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Devils Lake, where Bearers will be Kevin, Wade, Cory and Brady Anderson, Monte Carvell and Dustin Buchholtz. Music will be provided by Julie Buchholtz and Allison Frisk. A special tribute by Wade Anderson. she was a member of WELCA and Lydia Circle. She was a member of Wild Rose Chapter of Eastern Star, American Association of University Women, Lake Region Swedish Society, Hoe and Hope Garden Club and of the Retired Teachers Organizations. Dorothy cherished the time spent with nephews, nieces, their families, friends and relatives. She enjoyed playing many different card games. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert; sister Ruby who died at the age of 5; brother and sister-in-law Casper and Anna Anderson and niece Lucille Anderson. She is survived by her nephews Warren (Lucille) Anderson and Lyle (Betty) Anderson all of Devils Lake; nieces Janet Carvell, Washburn and Janice (Gordon) Persinger, Norton, Kansas; 12 great nieces, great nephews and several great great nieces and great great nephews and great great great nieces.
