Dorothy (Scharf) Pung, 93, Devils Lake, died peacefully on Friday evening, June 28, 2019, in Eventide Nursing Home.
Dorothy was born October 14, 1925, and grew up in Crary, ND. After graduating from high school she moved to Devils Lake.
On June 14, 1950, she married Mike Pung in Devils Lake, where they raised five children. In addition to being a homemaker, Dorothy worked at S&L, Ben Franklin, and as a home health aide at Lake Region Social Services.
Dorothy had many hobbies that reflected her creativity and artistic talents. She loved to garden and tended to her roses, geraniums and peonies; she played piano for her family and friends; and she was a beautiful quilter. She enjoyed golfing and was also an amazing bowler, participating in many tournaments with her team.
In retirement Dorothy and Mike traveled, often with her sister-in-law Patricia, and also spent many winters in Lake Havasu City, AZ. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, a member of St. Gerard’s Circle, and a member of the VFW Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband Mike, her four sisters and a brother.
She is survived by a son, Michael (Debbie) Pung, San Jose, CA., four daughters, Kathy (Jack) Wilhelmi, Starkweather, ND, and Lake Havasu City, AZ; Susan (Ben) Hofseth, Richfield, MN; Rebecca Pung, Devils Lake, ND; Audrey (Russ) Borski, Broomfield, CO; a sister, Eunice Balzer, Bismarck ND; and sister-in-law Patricia Pung, Santa Barbara, CA. She is also survived by five grandsons, Brian (Cecilia) Yager, Helena, MT; Jesse Hofseth, Redmond, WA; Nick Hofseth, Everett, WA; Derek Borski, Denver, CO; and Curtis Borski, Boulder, CO.
Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph’s Elementary School Chapel Fund or Lake Region State College.
Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy will be held on Monday, July 8, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake with the Very Reverend C.F. Wilhelm celebrating the Mass. Dorothy will be laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Sunday, July 7th from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 5:00 p.m. Visitation on Monday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.
