Dorothea K. Surerus

Dorothea (Berg) Surerus, 80 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND in the presence of her loving family.

Funeral Services for Dorthea will be held on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake with Reverend Tom Westcott officiating.  Visitation will be held on Monday beginning at 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.

Dorothea Kae Berg Surerus was born to Stanley and Alma (Kalliokoski) Berg on May 22, 1938 in Brocket, ND. She graduated from Doyon, ND High School and Mayville State Teacher’s College, Mayville, ND.

Dorothea married Howard Surerus June 3, 1961 at her parents farm near Doyon, ND. Dorothea taught in Beulah, ND, Cavalier, ND, Neche, ND, Moorhead, MN and for 29 years in Cooperstown, ND. She was named to Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers seven times.

Dorothea is survived by long-time friend Rick Anderson (Cooperstown, ND), children Kristene (Whitefish Bay, WI), Kelly and Sherri (Lisbon), and Kory (Cooperstown, ND): grandchildren Melinda (Moorhead, MN), Ernest (Lisbon), and Dannielle and Gunnar (Grand Forks); great-grandchildren Eric and Theodore; sister Stanlynn (Russell) Margulies; brothers Dennis (Sandy) Berg and Doug (Mary) Berg and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Jim Berg.
