Douglas G. Goodwill

Douglas G. Goodwill, 67 of Devils Lake and Starkweather ND passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 24, 2020 at rural Starkweather ND.

Douglas Garth Goodwill, son of Maurice and Alpha Mavis (Hakanson) Goodwill was born on March 15, 1953 at Devils Lake. In his younger years Doug lived primarily in the Fargo ND area and graduated from Jamestown High School with the class of 1971. He continued his education at UND, Grand Forks.

Doug would spend most of his life working with his father in various endeavors, and also owning and operating his own custom combining operation in the upper Midwest, from Kansas to the Canadian Border. He was a talented “jack of all trades” and a do-it-yourselfer, including home repair, mechanics, carpentry, gardening, and classic cars.

Douglas was united in marriage to Lynn Myhra on May 12, 1979 in South Dakota and they would make their home in the Lake Region, where they lived, worked and raised their family through the years.

Douglas was a happy person, and had a passion for the outdoors and all the blessings of nature. He enjoyed biking, kayaking, and mowing the farmyard and the paths through the woods on the family farm. He loved his time spent at the lake in the summer and preparing family feasts with his renowned grill master skills. Doug also appreciated the snowy season with snowmobiling at home and skiing in the mountains of Wyoming, Colorado and Montana. He was especially excited about the upcoming winter and teaching his three year old granddaughter to ski as he had his own children. Doug loved the land and the sunshine, but he cherished his family most of all.

Doug will be so very missed by his wife Lynn of 41 years; daughter Natalie Goodwill and granddaughter Aspen Wittenberg all of Devils Lake; sisters and brother Patricia (Richard) Anderson, William (Rita) Goodwill and Denise (Arlan Kunz) Goodwill all of Fargo ND; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Monte (Shannon) Myhra, St. Paul MN, Wayne (Barbara) Myhra, Wahpeton ND, Karen (James) Lee, Seattle WA, Kay (Kevin) Berger, also of Wahpeton, Lecia (Terry) Salquist, West Fargo ND, Jana (Richard) Judisch, Moorhead MN, and many nieces and nephews and their families.

Douglas was preceded in death by his son Cale, his parents Maurice and Mavis Goodwill and parents-in-law Burnell and Alice Myhra.
