Drew Allen Longie

Drew A. Longie, nine year old son of Amber Hoeltl and Wade Longie died Tuesday morning, April 4, 2017 at Sanford Health in Fargo. Drew Allen, was born on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake, a blessing to his parents, Wade Longie and Amber Hoeltl and brother Avery. He attended Kiddie Campus, Head Start and was now a third grader at Prairie View Elementary School. He was active in all aspects of school and gave a try to many different sports including hockey, baseball, wrestling and basketball. He loved to watch hockey on TV with Avery and they were diehard Blackhawk fans. He loved learning, reading, answering questions and asking questions in class. He was a baptized member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and was a faithful participant in Wednesday School Faith Formation. Drew had a very keen interest in the weather, especially in tornados. He had a “whirlwind personality” that was unforgettable and brought a smile to every face Drew encountered. He loved everything about school; his classmates, all the students, all the teachers and staff. This “social butterfly” had friends in every grade, in every activity, of all ages. He was the kid that was kind to everyone, encouraged everyone to try and was always there whenever anyone needed a friend. His best friend was Avery. They were lifelong companions, always together, never apart for long. Drew wanted Avery to have no fears, only faith. Faith that everything would turn out for the best. Drew’s kind heart was lavished on the family pets, Tyson and Lola, he loved them both. Can a child who lived such a brief time on this earth have an impact? Absolutely! Drew never saw the cloudy sky, only the sunshine and the rainbows. That was Drew, always loved and never forgotten. Drew is survived by his father Wade Longie, Grand Forks; mother Amber Hoeltl, Devils Lake; brothers Avery Longie and Cameron Longie; his other special family Todd Lambrecht and Chloe, Kenna and Brogan; maternal grandparents Jamie Trottier and Richard Hoeltl; paternal grandparents Chuck Longie (Rhea Crane) and Alberta Redfox; great grandparents Toby and LeElla Trottier; aunts and uncles Erik Hoeltl (Tracy Vilandre), Landon Morin, Trayden Morin, Jodie Longie (Brian Morken), Clarence Longie, Amy HolyWing, Mary and John Tollefson and Steven Redfox; great aunts and great uncles Michelle (Barry) Ash, Todd (Gloriann) Trottier, Troy (Beth) Trottier, Patty Johnson, Rita (Dave) Calderon, Harry (Julie) Abercrombie, Mathews “Joe” Longie, Catherine Longie, Helen Jacobs, Mary (Jim) Swigart, Diane (Danny) Butts, Hilda (Louis) Garcia and Sharon (Alvin) Georgeson and many cousins.
