Duane Buzick 79, Devils Lake ND formerly of Gardner ND passed away at Good Samaritan Nursing Home of Lakota on Thursday June 15, 2023, after a brief illness.
Duane Earl Buzick was born on March 30, 1944, in Fargo ND to Hilda (Malingen) and Earl Buzick. He was their first born and he grew up in Hunter ND and Gardner ND where he attended grade school and Junior High. He attended high school in Crookston MN, graduating from Crookston AG in 1962. After graduation he worked for an area farmer and painted farm buildings in the Hunter area. That summer he met the girl who would later become his wife. On October 2, 1964 he married Judie Carlson in Fargo. They lived in Fargo where he worked for Siouxland Dressed Beef. In May of 1965 they moved to Gardner where he took over management of the Happy Hour Bar which was owned by his mother. In 1967 he and Judie welcomed their only child, Karla Diane. He managed the bar until 1977 when it was sold. He and Judie built a new home in Gardner and he went to work for Super Valu in Fargo. They divorced in 1983, but remained good friends. In 1995 he married Peggy Joersz and was happily married to her until the time of his passing. He retired from Super Valu in 2001. He and Peggy lived in Devils Lake in the summers and spent their winters in Apache Junction AZ.
Duane loved to hunt, fish, and play pool and cards in his younger days. Recurring back problems in his later years prevented him from these activities but he loved a good TV show and was always game for a “cold beer and a cigarette”. He was a man of few words, and his quiet presence will be sadly missed by those who loved him.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 28 years, Peggy, his daughter Karla Buzick (Len Friedt) of Bismarck, stepchildren Sara, Bobby, Tony and Angel, sister Joyce Hagemeister (Dean) of West Fargo, nephews Troy and Chad Johnson and 10 step-grandchildren and 1 step-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his mother Hilda and father Earl.
RIP Dad, Duane, Red, Dewey, Buzz. We will remember you with love and smiles forever. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fraternal Order of Eagles in Apache Junction AZ (2315 S Coconino Drive, Apache Junction AZ 85120)
