Elizabeth "Betty" L. Van Steenvoort

Elizabeth L. “Betty” Van Steenvoort, 79 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake in the loving care of her family.

Elizabeth Louise, daughter of Sebastian “Sy” and Christine (Schiele) Jager was born on October 4, 1939 at Devils Lake, ND. She grew up and was educated in Devils Lake.

On September 9, 1958, Betty was united in marriage to Daniel J. Van Steenvoort. Because of Dan’s employment with Gamble Stores they lived in many different states.  Betty’s priority was that of a devoted wife and mother to her 7 children. 

In 1979, some of the family returned to Devils Lake and Betty would call it home the remainder of her life. She was a dedicated employee of KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) for over 20 years. 

Betty enjoyed time with friends at the VFW and Eagles Lodge through the years. She also enjoyed visiting with friends, meeting new people and playing the game of BINGO.  She was a woman of great faith and her membership at St. Joseph Catholic Church meant a great deal to her and attending daily Mass whenever she was able. 

As Betty’s health declined, she felt so blessed to have the love, care and support of her family.

Betty is survived by her loving family. Her children Mark (Ginger) Van Steenvoort, Leesport, Pennsylvania, Marla (Pete) Ward, Coon Rapids, MN, Mike Van Steenvoort, Freeport, Illinois, Marilyn Van Steenvoort, Devils Lake, Melodie Kania also Devils Lake, Mindy Jager, Rochester, MN and Matthew (Kayla Bingham)Van Steenvoort, Devils Lake; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; brothers Steve (Barb) Jager, Jamestown, ND, Eddy Jager, Devils Lake and Bobby (Judy) Jager, Colorado Springs, CO; many nieces, nephews and their families. 

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; a child in infancy; great granddaughter Alexi Van Steenvoort; son-in-law Phil Kania; husband Daniel on February 24, 2002 and brother Tommy Jager.

Funeral Services for Betty will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake with the Very Reverend C.F. Wilhelm officiating.

Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and will continue on Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

Reading the Scriptures will be Mark Van Steenvoort and music will be provided by Lynne Webster and JoDee Lagein.
