Ella Jane Blueshield, “Cant’e Ohitika Winyan” (Strong Heart Woman), 34 Tokio ND passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at her home in the loving care of her husband and family.
The Wake for Ella will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Dakotah Oyate Lutheran Church, rural Tokio ND beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a time of Prayer and Remembrance at 7:00 p.m. The procession to Dakotah Oyate Church will leave at 4:00 p.m. from the City Plaza in Devils Lake. Funeral Services will be at the church on Thursday, February 16th at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Larry Thiele officiating. Burial will be in the spring at the Blueshield Cemetery, rural Tokio.
Ella Jane was born on December 11, 1988 at Bismarck ND the daughter of David Lee Tree Top and Marie Phillips. She grew up on the Spirit Lake Nation, attending school in Minnewaukan and Ellendale, North Dakota.
Ella returned to the Spirit Lake Nation and was united in marriage to Joseph Blueshield on April 10, 2012 by Pastor Thiele. They established their home in the Tokio area where they lived, worked and cared for each other.
Ella loved to cook and clean all while listening to music through her ear buds. She enjoyed the outdoors and loved to take walks with her husband Joey. He always pushed her all over in her wheelchair. She loved her husband very much and that meant she was a Packer fan, cheering them on every Sunday when she and Joey watched Packer football. She treasured her children, was proud of them and talked about them all the time.
Ella had many struggles in life, but was blessed with a loving, caring husband, many siblings, in-laws, relatives and friends who could always bring a smile to her face and joy to her heart.
Ella’s loving family include her husband Joseph “Joey” Blueshield; children Annette and Vincent; brothers and sisters Alfred HasHorns, Zachary TreeTop, Suzette TreeTop, Holly TreeTop, David TreeTop and Helen Mitchell Treetop; mother-in-law June Blueshield; special niece Tazanna Dauphinais; great grandmother Mazie Sheldon of Little Eagle, South Dakota; aunts Karen Phillips, Lois TreeTop, Deb Tiger, Rose TreeTop, Robin WalkingBull, Olena; uncles Terry Phillips, Phillip LeBlanc, Mike TreeTop; nephews and nieces Elijah, Josias, Zaceus, Zakia, Tazanna, Suvanna, Amy; cousins Jessica Phillips Grazier, Jasmine Phillips, Brandy Phillips RedWater, Luve Thompson, Emmalee Thompson, Sylvia StrongHeart, Lanessa Green, Delta Green, Sherman Phillips III, Mckenzie Phillips; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Tennyson Blueshield Sr., James Bear Jr., Laura Bear and Renae Bear;
She was preceded in death by her parents Marie and David, great great grandparents Robert and Ella Gabe Baker and many other beloved relatives.
Pallbearers will Joel Small, Wyatt Redfox, Tennyson Blueshield Sr., Jaston Blueshield, Cayden Feather, Elijah Feather Jr., and Tazanna Dauphinais.
