Evelyn Elaine Nelson Nagel, born on September 29, 1938, in Fargo, ND, passed away July 20, 2018, at her daughter’s home in Lake Havasu City, AZ. She was surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Hospice of Havasu.

 

Evelyn was raised in Brockett, ND on the Sylvester Hanson family farm. Her mother, Fyetta Nelson, worked at the Hanson farm. It was here that she developed her love of animals. Evelyn was an only child.

 

Evelyn married Ernest Nagel on October 24, 1954. They lived in Devils Lake, ND most of their lives where they raised their four children, Jeri, Jackie, JoNell and Jim. Together they enjoyed many years of travel, campfires and more. They spent countless hours on the water, boating, skiing and fishing.

 

In 2008, they moved to Casa Grande, AZ where they had previously spent the winter months after their retirement. In 2013, Ernie and Evelyn moved to Lake Havasu City to be closer to family. Ernie passed away in 2013.

 

Evelyn was a licensed practical nurse who worked all her career in Devils Lake. She worked in the Surgical and Intensive Care Units at Mercy Hospital. In her later nursing career, she worked at Lake Region Nursing Home and as a public health nurse.

 

Evelyn is survived by; her three daughters, Jeri Rudolf (Bill Kohlhaase), Jacquelyn (Ted) Meyer-Spitz, JoNell (Scott) Bye; and son, James Nagel (Beverly Greenwald). Evelyn has seven grandchildren, two step grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren with another on the way, and four step-great grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by; her mother, Fyetta Nelson Dufak; husband, Ernest Nagel; and son-in-law, Russell Meyer.

 

Funeral arrangements have been handled by Leitz-Fraze Funeral Home in Lake Havasu City, AZ and Gilbertson’s Funeral Home in Devils Lake, ND.

 

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 18, 2018, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with graveside service to follow at Devils Lake Cemetery.

 

The family requests memorials in Evelyn’s name be sent to Hospice of Havasu, PO Boz 397, Lake Havasu City, AZ 86403 or a Humane Society of your choice.

 

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Havasu for their kindness, exceptional care and compassion during the last year of her life.
