Zuya Hoksida (War Boy) Free DuBois, 43 of Fort Totten, ND passed away on Friday, December 4, 2020 at Sanford On Broadway Medical Center in Fargo.
Visitation for Free will be held on Tuesday, December 8th, 2020 at Beryl Dubois home beginning at 5:00 p.m. The procession to the Dubois home will leave on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. from City Plaza. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 9th at St. Jerome’s Cemetery, Crow Hill District, rural Fort Totten at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Brandon Wegener and Curtis McKay officiating.
Free Danon DuBois was began his journey on earth on November 15, 1977 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake ND. He was the son of Daniel J. and Beryl (Chaske) DuBois. He grew up on the Spirit Lake Nation, attending school at Four Winds and continuing his education at Kicking Horse Job Corp in Montana where he received his Culinary Arts Degree. He was a strong believer in education, and attended Little Hoop Community College and United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck, graduating with Associate of Arts Degrees from both colleges.
Along with a desire for education, he also had a strong work ethic and was frequently awarded for his perfect attendance and hard work. He worked as the Supervisor of the Housekeeping Department at the Spirit Lake Casino for several years. Most recently he was a QSP for his parents.
Free’s heart and soul was always in taking care of others. He doted on his parents and was such a special caregiver to his entire family. He loved his nieces and nephews with all his heart and he was “Pa” to his precious grandson.
Free’s hobbies were usually work related, but his work, interaction with people and family gave him so much joy. He was an awesome chef and always made sure he was making everyone’s favorites whenever he could. He was an extremely talented artist also.
Free was such a special gift from the Creator to his family. He will be forever loved, forever missed and forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his parents Daniel and Beryl; daughter Daisy Herald; grandson Jeremiah “JJ” Dubois; sister Georgalene M. (Marty Alex); brothers Nathaniel Dubois (Candace) and Calvin DuBois; half-brothers Daniel DuBois and Sherman DuBois; grandmother Cora Iceman; several aunts and uncles including Maxine and Lawrence Levely of British Columbia, Helen and Rodney Northcott of Alberta, Canada, Sandra Baker-Belgarde, Dunseith ND and Louie Baker, Belcourt ND and many dear nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Deanna DuBois, Danielle DuBois and Denise DuBois, grandparents Daniel DuBois, Mary Magdeline Sherman, George Chaske and Verna Myan, nephews Larse Azure Jr. and Wambli DuBois and special uncle Calvin Chaske.
Casket Bearers will be his nephews Dawson DuBois, Tyren DuBois, Dakota DuBois, Nathaniel DuBois Jr., Kelin DuBois, Geddy DuBois, MJ Alex, and his brothers Calvin DuBois Sr. and Nathaniel DuBois Sr. Honorary Bearers will be all of Free’s friends and relatives. He loved you all. All Drum Groups and Singers are welcome to share their songs in memory of Free.
