72, George passed on to the spirit world Friday, March 28, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
George was born on July 15, 1946 to William N Longie and Jeanette Martha Hunt. George was an enrolled member of Spirit Lake Nation.
George attended Elementary School at St Michaels Indian School and St. Joseph’s Indian School he also went to high school in Stephan, SD. George obtained his Associates of Arts Degree at Candeska Cikana Community College in 2008..
George married his soulmate Jerolyn Conklin Longie on July 28, 1969 and they would’ve been married 50 years this July. George was employed with Four Winds as a bus driver and transportation director for Four Winds for 40+ years until the time of death.
George in his early days enjoyed time with his wife. He liked bowling, hunting, rodeo’s (saddle bronc rider) and pow wow’s (traditional dancer). He traveled many places in the US and Canada. He enjoyed watching high school basketball. Everywhere George went he put a smile on people's faces by joking and making them laugh,. He liked spending time with his grandchildren.
George is survived by his wife; his children; Delorine Smith, George Longie Jr, Jarrett Lee Longie, Larissa M. Longie, Ryan Hill, Jonathan Hill all of Fort Totten , Nikki Massmann (Justin) of Osakis, MN, Jeanie Fournier of Minnwaukan, ND and many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren; god-son, Thomas Longie, god-daughter: Areonna GreyBear; adopted daughter Angela Richotte; His siblings: Evangeline White, Fred Longie Sr., Bernice Juarez, Francis Liberty, M Yvonne Longie; adopted brother Chuck Gutherie; god-mother Auntie Maggie Moxness;
George is preceded in death by his parents William and Jeanette and brothers; Sammy Longie, Timmy Longie Sr, Willie Longie, Little Dave Longie and Ricky Longie. Great Grandson; Adonnis Littlewind (Azure)
George’a favorite story he told was of his rodeo days when he saddle bronc in the 70’s. George was at a rodeo with Pete Belgarde in Montana when Larry Mayhem, a Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame Cowboy was in the shoot ahead of him and asked to use his rosin. He was proud of that.
Jeri recalls enjoying quality alone time with her husband George while traveling together to places like Las Vegas and Washington DC she also recalls watching tv in the evenings together.
George will be greatly missed he was a great man, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and nephew.
George Antione Longie Sr., 72 of Fort Totten, ND passed away at his home on Thursday evening, March 28, 2019 in the loving care of his dear family.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, ND on Sunday, March 31, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a time of Prayer and Remembrance at 6:00 p.m.
Funeral Services for George will be held on Monday, April 1, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Four Winds School, Fort Totten, ND with burial in the Crow Hill Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Fort Totten. The procession to Fort Totten will leave on Monday at 9:00 a.m. from City Plaza.
George is in the care of the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake
