Georgene L. Tabert

Georgene L. Tabert, 90 of Devils Lake, ND passed away at Eventide Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake on Tuesday, May 29, 2018.

Georgene Lucille, daughter of Roy and Mary (Merow) Trapp was born on August 18, 1927 in Sparta, Wisconsin. She was reared and educated in Wisconsin, graduating from North Freedom High School in 1945. The day after Georgene graduated from high school the family moved to Bremerton, Washington to get jobs in the ship yards.  .

On January 15, 1948, Georgene was united in marriage to Edmund Tabert who was serving in the Navy. They moved to Jackson, Minnesota and Ed worked with his brother Dick in the Sheet Metal business. After a few years, they moved back to Bremerton, lived, worked and raised their family.

The Midwest beckoned and they moved to East Grand Forks and Ed again was involved in sheet metal work and Georgene was the devoted wife and mother to her family. When the opportunity to purchase Lake Region Sheet Metal arose, the family made the move to Devils Lake and operated the business for many years, and proudly turned the business over to their sons.  Edmund died on May 18, 1980.

First and foremost, Georgene lovingly cared for her home and family. As the children were older, she worked in the business as a secretary. For many years, Georgene was employed by the Devils Lake School System as a Teacher’s Aide at Prairie View School.  After retiring, Georgene volunteered through the RSVP Program and also volunteered many hours as a hairdresser at the Lake Region Lutheran Home (now Eventide Heartland Care Center).  Georgene was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church and very active with the quilters.   Georgene always remained very close to her family and she and her 4 sisters enjoyed many years of travel together in the continental United States and also Hawaii.

Georgene lived a life of true faith and love of family and friends. We will proudly carry on that legacy.

Georgene’s loving family include her children Dianne (Dennis) Lunde, Colfax, WI, Duane (Myrna) Tabert, Devils Lake and Mark (Eileen) Tabert, Portland, OR; 8 grandchildren Amanda (Nate) McNaughton, Corey (Jennifer) Lunde; Betsey (Dustin) Willey, Casey (Shane) Nies; Molly (Chris) Hulett, Eric Tabert, Katey (Phillip) Grubisa and Abbey (Cole) Parsons; 11 great grandchildren Kaylee, Simon, Trent, Mari, Rachel, Ryker, Skylar, Aspen, Parker, Lillian and Elise; sisters Mary (Harry) Hanson, Eau Claire, WI and Betty Gordon, Leavenworth, WA and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Edmund; infant son Roger; twin brother George in infancy and brother Raymond Trapp; sisters Alice Wixon and Edna Shafer.

Funeral Services for Georgene will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Reverend Lyle Belleque officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
