There will be an Open House Celebration of Life at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held in Sibley IA at a later date.
Glenn Alan Dykstra “Dyke” was born on August 19, 1947 at Sibley, Iowa to Henry “Hap” and Dorothy (Postma) Dykstra. He passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2025 after a lengthy illness at CHI, St. Alexius Health, Devils Lake Hospital. Glenn was raised in Sibley IA and also raised his family in Sibley. He moved with his wife Janet to Devils Lake ND in 2019.
Glenn graduated from Sibley High School in 1967. He attended Northwest Community College in Sheldon, IA. During this time he joined his father working as a contractor for Dykstra Construction. Glenn became the owner of Dykstra Construction, after the unexpected death of his father. He operated the Construction business for 40 plus years, building new residential/commercial buildings and many remodeling projects. Glenn also had a CDL which he used hauling milk and grain. After retiring from construction, Glenn was employed by Osceola County Conservation/Willow Creek for several years. After moving to Devils Lake, Glenn worked with Graham’s Island State Park for several years.
Glenn enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren’s many activities. He spent time boating, bowling, watching the Minnesota Vikings and NASCAR. He had a special enjoyment in taking out the “King Midget Convertible” in local parades with his children. He especially cherished the car as it was his father’s, purchased from Keith Merrick. He enjoyed vacationing with his family in Okoboji, IA, the Black Hills, Florida, Colorado, the Twin Cities and Washington DC.
Glenn was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Sibley. He served on the Church Council and Property Committee. He was involved in the development of the first community Passion Play, building stage sets/props as needed. Glenn was a member of the Sibley Fire Department and Sibley Kiwanis. He was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Glenn leaves behind a loving family including his wife of 43 years Janet (Kruger). His memory will be cherished by his son Jed Dykstra, daughter Paige Dykstra and grandchildren Ashiya and Bryson, daughter-in-law Tonia McClure, granddaughter Jess Doll and family.
He is survived by his sisters Cheryl (Ray) Gruis, Renee (David) Everding and Lori (Rick) Schaa, in-laws Kelvin “Kelly” (Patti) Kruger, Rae (Dana) Yost, Michael Kruger and Aimee (Steve) Fisher, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents Hap and Dorothy, son James “Jim” Dykstra McClure, parents-in-law George and Shirlee Kruger, fiancé of Paige and father of Aiker, Justin Bracken and grandson Aiker Bracken.
